| Went to your site but couldn't find a way to send you the poem you wished for the anthology so thought I'd post it here for you, Shelagh. Hope it's good enough for you. To A Friend Large, Small, Close, Distant, But still A friend is there. Helping, Criticizing, Laughing, Crying, But still You’re friend stands tall. Seeing, Being, Caring, Smiling, But still A friend for you to see. Arguing, Fighting, Speaking, Silent, But still A friend takes it all. |

| Hi Shelagh,
I will make the committment to submit a story (2000 words?, theme Friendship?) due by Aug 31, I'm in if you are still collecting names.
My personal favorite is World Wide Writers - I really like the "WWW" play. I recently heard the old Carole King song "You've Got a Friend", that could be a possible title as well; perhaps the friendship theme could emphasize the people around us who are really there for us. |

| Well, today I got inspired and wrote another friendship poem. The poem is entitled Friendship is Forever and I've posted it under the poetry section. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to contribute more than one poem to the anthology, but I'd be willing to submit this one too if you're willing to accept it. Please let me know. If you want it, I'll e-mail it. |

| I will contribute either a short fiction or short nonfiction piece if this project becomes reality. At this point, is only fiction being considered? JIM |

| Hi Jim, I'll look forward to receiving your short story. It will become a reality. I have already received submissions from twelve contributors with a promnise from at least twelve more. All stories should be works of fiction. It is going to be a terrific book! |

| Hi Shelagh: I will compromise on word count and send a 3K piece.
Suggestion, since the anthology will not be edited in the purest sense of the word, instead of the cover indicating "Edited by..." you might consider "Compiled by ..."
Looking back over all the posts on this subject, I noted that you did not purchase a copy of "200 Authors ..." I did not buy it either, and I copy-edited the whole thing. I thought the cover price was too high just to see my name in print, having seen it often enough.
I've had some experience in assembling anthologies for groups. one is "A Way With Murder, " for the Arizona Mystery Writers. The theme was mystery and most contributions dealt with murder. The restriction other than word count, which must be a facror with such a project, is that all stories had to be set in Arizona. It was vanity published through Xlibris and all sales, several hundred copies, were to the forty authors.
Another project that I conceived, assembled and edited for The Society of Southwestern Authors (SSA), is "Duty, Honor and Valor." This one is war and other military service accounts that are autobiographical or written about the subject serviceman by family or friends. The restriction was that all authors had to be SSA members. That requirement attracted new members who joined in order to take part in the anthology. The time of release was critical, for a Veterans Day event, so it was subsidy published by Wheatmark to ensure availability on our schedule.
I have contributed to yet another anthology, a "best of" collection from an e-zine, that was paper-printed by Lulu, and it turned out very well. All three of these anthologies are available to the world; we just await the world finding us.

| Hi Jim, Your experiences reflect my thoughts entirely. The fact that contributors are the main buyers means the more contributors, the greater the number of sales. The main advantage of an anthology is in being read by a wider readership. If readers enjoy reading a story by one of the contributors, there's a chance they will look for books written by that author. It's a great opportunity to reach a wider audience than just family and friends. I've asked Aidana to put "edited by" on the cover. I gave it some thought after my husband said it has to be properly edited. So I guess I'll have to get on with it! |

However, I will be editing the stories and poems. |

| I e-mailed my second poem a few days ago, but I havn't gotten a reply yet. I was wondering if you've gotten it yet. I know you've got my first friendship poem, but I'm wondering about my second. I hope it didn't get lost in cyber space. |

| They are seperate poems so some distinction should be made between them in the book. Put them both on the same page if you want or two seperate pages. It doesn't matter as long as it is clear that they are two seperate poems. |

| Karina, You can submit your work to other magazines/agents/publishers before and after the book is published. I won't be asking for exclusive rights. You are free to publish your work elsewhere. Untill all submissions are in, I can't say which poems will be included but it is more than likely that all the short stories will be accepted. |
