| One thing that really bothered me was when he would say he didn't care what people thought. Well, this is a democracy, and maybe at least he could have listened to the people. He said in his news conference about how people thought the government had failed in Katrina, but "30,000 people had been saved off of roofs."
That was the Coast Guard. Certainly they are under the President, but they acted from their own consciences. And he put too many zeroes in the number saved.
It is like Stalin once said. "One death is a tragedy. Many dead are statistics."

| If there is one political sentiment that seems to dominate the day it's that:
Shake 'em and roll 'em, things gotta do different. |

| We who put so much hope in this unknown leader; yes, relatively unknown compared to the task at hand, perhaps we expect too much. We didn't get here overnight, and we we won't get there by tomorrow. It's going to be a long and painful trip in my estimation, and the blame will fall on the new President. Sort of reminds me of Michigan's governor who took on a nearly bankrupt Michigan with the auto industry already caught in its unions and its quagmire of ancient tooling, She is now the recipient of the ire for the nearly 25% unemployment. I am grateful for those with vision who take on the challenges that would undo those with less courage and fortitude. I did that in a small way as a change agent for public/private organizations. You're either a hero or a scoundrel. There is no middle ground. |

| I agree that it will take hard work, time and a lot of fortitude to turn this massive ship that is America in a new direction. I'm excited that we have a new direction, though and I'm not afraid of hard work. |

| Hope is something and saying a mess cannot be cleaned up is not hopeful or helpful,.
The whole world has been in a much worse state. think of Hitler--W cannot hold a candle to him.
I do think Obama has brains, charisma and will do his best-let 's help him--by being postitive and hopeful. |

Very true. Herbert Hoover had NOTHING to do with the Great Depression, but the called the shantytowns "Hoovervilles".
Clinton got a lot of credit for things created by Reagan.
But I think on this one people are pretty clear that both the economic disaster and the foreign misadventures are the fault of the Bush regime.
Obama might get the blame for the inflation that will inevitably follow the current "stimulus" spending. And he will certainly foul up some things on his own.
I continue to think (though I would never have chosen him to be president) that just by winning he has already accomplished some major benefits for the country and hope that he gets some breaks and can leave us better than he found us. |

I agree with Lin's statement, although I did vote for Obama. Last Wednesday I talked with a man at Kiwanis who has done an extensive personal study on the presidents, reading at least one biography on each of them. He said that we have survived a lot of less than exemplary Presidents. I agree even from my smaller study of Presidents.
And Alice, being hopeful IS important.

| Carol, You must take charge of the lunatics in your state--one of them threatened Obama. I could not believe this wacko was from Wisconsin I like Obama and have high hopes for him. If he can't fix everythng mmediately, I will not blame him. A change in direction might do wonders Picture if you will a boat load of sight -seers. Looming ahead is trouble--trouble that cannot be averted--must we go through it? How about changing course, turn the bleeping boat around and go the other way. That is what I expect from Obama--simply a change of direction--not perfection. |

| Speaking of that threat. If there is one single thing everybody should pray for over the run of this administration, no matter what our politics:
Please, God, don't let Obama get assasinated. I'm pretty good at imagining bloody disaster, but I think the results of that could exceed my direst urges. |

| When they compare him to Kennedy and Lincoln I get nervous.
Our high school band went to Chicago for the Thanksgiving parade. One dad went to the Sears Tower with his kids. When they came out, an entourage of vehicles was passing by. In the next to last car there were men hanging out the windows with machine guns. He figured the last car had to be Obama. I hope they take good care of him, but right now I say prayers also for his survival.
Kennedy's assassination changed the world. There are those who believe we would have never gotten into the Vietnam mess although it had begun on his watch. He had expressed concerns for some of the actions and many believe it would have ended. He was the new voice, the hope for the future. He was not the most honorable man, but he gave us all hope at the time.
So, I hope and pray for Obama. There are those in this land who hate and that is sad when this is such a monumentally important event.

| Assasination is a very real threat and one many of my friends and I have expressed concern about. |

| Beyond just riots and such, I think it would do so much to not only destroy but reverse direction of the gathering of hope and pride in inclusion that his election has brought.
I always thought Colin Powell was one of the best bets for pres, actually. Certainly better than the field the last few times out.
Apparently the reason he refused to have a hat in the ring was his wife's fear that he would be killed.
I've always said that the best thing about Obama was that anybody could say, "Look, a black kid in the US CAN grow up to be president." And, "If we're such a racist country, why do we have a black president and France and Italy and Cuba and those aren't even close to it?"
An assassination would certainly reverse that. Sure, it was a majority election and it only takes one kook to pull a trigger, but that wouldn't be the effect at all. |

| Despite all the security stuff it's pretty easy to shoot anybody. I could have done Nixon easily on two occasions. Once I was a hundred yards from where he was speaking, standing in a curtained bedroom that had a deer rifle and ammunition in the closet.
We just gotta hope it doesn't go down that way. |

| Interesting comments. People in Europe also hold the fear that Obama may get shot. There is much relief that Bush will finally be gone but fear for our next president who has instilled hope for the future. |
