| 2/22/2013 Finally got a call from my Dr. this morning, No I'm not pregnant ( Joke) , No it's not the rotatry cuff, Here's what it is : " Adhesive Capsuleitis" It can be treated in several ways including surgery, if not the arm becomes stiff and un-usable. I had to make an appointment with a Orthopedist Specialist Surgeon for 3/6/2013, I'll see what he has to say. Thanks friends for being concerned, that makes me feel better but I have to deal with it I don't want to walk around like Boris Karloff's The Mummy ! Cheers...Joe... |

| Dear Joe,
Please consider all the alternatives to surgery. My David had the rotary cuff surgery. He is a non complaining person, but it hurt him very much and these 10 years later, it still hurts. I think, go for every alternative out there, before surgery. Surgery only puts a lot of money in the doctors pocket and really, there you are to suffer for life.
I have said my bit here.
You are such a kind and gentle person. I do not want to see you hurting at all.
My best love to you and Ms Dusty and Charlie. You have always been so considerate and kind to me and all the people on this message board. I love you dearly.
Love,
Betty |

| I second Betty. Surgery is always the last resort. I have been fortunate. At 35, the gynecologist suggested female surgery because I had some pains. My family doctor said, "in ten years, those fibroids will likely disappear. Let's wait a bit." I am still waiting - and the pain is gone. When I was 40, I tore my meniscus in my left knee on an airplane ramp. The pain was excruciating. The shot of cortisone was so bad I swore at the doctor who gave it to me and I think I tried to hit him. He said if that didn't work, I needed surgery. I was so afraid of cortisone shots after that I was afraid to hurt. Recently, I had trigger thumb. The pain was unbelievable. I couldn't type or open a can or turn the keys in the ignition (right thumb). The doctor suggested surgery. Six months later of not using it, bingo - it now works fine just a little touchy now and then.
So far, the only surgery I've had is my tonsils out at 15 and again at 35 - and the second time I was so made at the botched first time I insisted on being awake and watching as much as I could observe. Healing was nearly immediate and I never touched the lovely bottle of codeine - drove 3000 miles to California the second week.
If I had listened to some of my physicians, I would be without parts that make a woman's life easier if not better; my knee would have had an operation before they became so adept at tiny incisions; my thumb would never be the same, just without pain.
Surgery may be the miracle you need, Joe. Only you can decide with a good second opinion. I'd try everything else first, even "laying on of hands." Find a good Healer and give it a try - at least it's not physically invasive. |

| 2/22/2013 Betty , DK , Alice.. Thank you all...I don't like the idea of surgery either, today it's bothering me, here it's very cold and damp. I have to wait for the 6th of March to see what this Dr. has to say .If you look up " Adhesive Capsuleitis," it'll tell you the whole story I can't even remember half of it... Love Joe |

| Dear Joe,
In the meanwhile, a good heating pad will make you feel a lot better. Since that lung surgery, I have a heating pad that my David and I share. He for his shoulder and me for my back. Warmpth is a wonderful healer all in it's own self. I wish you the best.
Love,
Betty |

| Just had my third shot for my shoulder this morning. To answer Don's question about what type of shot it is, it is Cortisone - an anti-inflamation steroid.
My shoulder feels much, much better. I can use it without pain. I'm still using the salve and perhaps it is a combination thing. I'm pleased with the result.
Any operation with the elderly, and Joe you are in that category, takes much time to heal. Operations on the elderly often cause other problems. If one can avoid an operation, that is a plus, in my view. |

| Alice, you're right. My mistake. Joe is still a young man, but he is creeping upward and that is good. Our kids thought we were over the hill when we were 50. When we hit 60 it became more realistic. Hitting 70 started the journey on the down side of the hill. Being over the hill has its downside, however it also has its upside. Looking back on a life lived to its fullest, joy and sorrow, means it was not boring. The remaining year(s) will be doing things left undone, showing appreciation to those who made a contribution, including kids, grandkids and friends met physically and cyperly(?). Simply doing the things that brings joy to life - good and for some, not so good as in what we eat or things we may say. Living life with truth, beginning with ourselves. Perhaps that is a bit of a dream, but I am a dreamer. Thank you all for being part of my dreams. I'll try to forget the nightmare parts . |

| Joe, just a reminder that recovering from rotator cuff surgery takes time - even when you are a "gladiator" and have a farm and animal friends to retreat to. (from Facebook) Hoping you won't need it. Annie |

| When I was 35 I lived on an island. I had chronic migraine & lived about a block from the dr. office. When the migraine was unbearable, I'd drag myself in a mu mu to the dr. office and he would immediately give me a shot and put me in a dark room until I came around, usually free of the pain.
I had three boys who needed physicals for their swim team, etc. He would line up all three, give them their physicals in assembly line fashion and charge me for one physical.
He didn't go to houses, but he was very available at his office at all hours. When I had a surgeon who needed his condo payment by doing surgery on me, the dr. said no way - just keep getting a checkup. He was right.
He was kind to me when I had a lot of stress in my life. He was good to my family. He was also very smart.
Doctors today specialize. Hard to find a generalist who knows enough.
Wishing you the best, Joe. And hopefully good news of some sort from the MRI. |
