| A very good friend here in Göcklingen had a Stroke on Sunday morning. The man is a member of the Men's choir and the Church Choir. We stand next to one another when singing and we had our Spring Concert on Saturday evening. He is also the former (now retired) Mayor of this village. He went for a bike ride on Sunday morning and had the Stroke. Fortunately he was wearing a helmut, otherwise he would have been dead where he fell. The helmut is completely broken and must be discarded. A passer-by found him and called the Emergency hotline. The police came as well as the Doctor who ordered a helicopter. He was flown to Karlsruhe where they have a special neurological facility. He is paralized on his left side. It hasn't affected his mental faculty and he is coherent and asking for things - a good sign. He is still in intensive care. When he leaves the hospital he will go into Rehab where they will work with him to regain movement on his left side. Positive thoughts (prayers) are welcomed. He is like a brother to me. His name is Günter Löhlein. Thanks for your understanding. |

| Positive thoughts from here also, Abe. A good friend is so important. Sounds like he has some good fortune in the bad circumstances already. May it grow. |

| Yesterday was a positive sign. He didn't want help with eating and asked his wife to place a piece of bread between his fingers so he could feed himself. Of course it didn't work, but I think it is a good sign that he will work to overcome his handicap. He has much discomfort. On his right side, he has broken ribs and a large bruise on his hip from the fall. There is no further bleeding in the skull and it appears that an operation to relieve pressure won't be necessary. Fortunately the paralysis didn't affect his face and his speech is not impaired. Thanks again for your prayers and positive waves. |

| The bleeding in the skull stopped and they won’t have to operate. That’s good news. The broken ribs continue to bother him, but other than that, there is no change for the worse. All in all he is getting good medical treatment and care. Socialized medicine is a wonderful thing. Never a question about who will pay or what insurance covers. The doctor decides on the treatment and where it should be done. The airlift was a great thing and most likely prevented further damage. I expect Günter will be ready for the challenge for his physical therapy. I’m wondering how he will deal with having a car with stick shift. He bought a new BMW this past year with manual shift. It would have been better with automatic, but that can be rectified at the appropriate time. Continue with your prayers. I feel confident that they are having a positive impact. |

| Abe,
My prayer and good thoughts are on their way for your friend Günter. I hope he will have a full recovery--his progress so soon after the stroke seems a very good sign. Having loved ones around, and supportive friends like you, is the best medicine as it provides a wonderful incentive to work hard towards a recovery. I hope he will be able to once again enjoy biking around with a shiny, new helmet in time. His attitude and support system should make that possible, with a little help from above. God bless your friend Günter, his family and his supportive, loving friends! |

| Just returned from a visit with his wife. She says that he was out of bed for the first time yesterday and sitting in a wheelchair. Every little step forward is a giant leap toward recovery. Thanks again for your prayers and/or positive energy sent his way. |

| Update Tuesday morning 12 June
Report this morning is good. The in-between Rehab has been cancelled. He doesn’t need to go there. Each day they ask Günter questions, i.e., what is your name? Where were you born? The date of your birth? Etc. His mental faculty is in good order and therefore doesn’t need the interim Rehab. They have a choice between Heidelberg and Bad Schonbrunn. They will go to Bad Schonbruun since it has the facility that his wife can stay with him whereas Heidelberg doesn’t. Günter was moved from IC to a room with two beds, another positive step. Günter is left-handed and being paralyzed on the left side is not the best thing. She says he takes his right hand and lifts his left hand where he can massage his fingers. He appears determined to get things working, another good sign.
Gisela had the MRT yesterday; I believe that is the US equivalent of an MRI. Everything looked well – no cancer or cyst. The doctor believes it could be a hernia; however he wants a surgeon to look at it. She will have our family doctor examine it when he returns from vacation. There is no urgency.
All in all a good day. Thanks for the positive energy flowing in our direction. |

| Please add my wife to your energy flow. She was taken to the hospital as an emergency yesterday. Pain in the lower abdomen. Diagnosis double hernia fearing that it may become strangulated. She is doing fine. Lots of tests and abdomen procedures start tomorrow. The last thing on the agenda will be fixing the hernia.
We're so thankful to have a good healthcare program. I'm thankful for friends such as the members on this forum. People who care are valued. Thanks for your positive energy (prayers). |
