| If the price is the same, I'd go for the signed one. |

| I would also number the copies and provide a little paper indicating how many prints are available. That increases the value of lithographs and seems it might add to value of photographs. Just a thought... |

Since their being sold on my art site, it would be difficult to make them limited, it's an idea...I had another artist tell me if it's a digital signature, which it is, it would have no value at all ? There is no way I can hand sign a digital photo, so as the one above shown I digitally signed it...I will think about limited edition prints..
Cheers..Joe |

| These artworks are the equivalent of print on demand (a person is buying a digital file) so, as you noted, there's no way to say a piece is "100 out of 300" or whatever. Same with the signature; it's basically an integrated part of the art. Thus, personal preference dictates if it's better to have a signature or not. To me, it just distracts from the picture. If there's a way to have the picture printed and sent to you first, then a sig would be nice, or if you could dictate how many prints could be made. |

| I was researching the Cerne Abbas Giant and I needed a very good picture of it for the book I was writing. I found one but it came with the URL and names on it. That was fine with me - I got what I needed and they got what they wanted. But LC there was no mention on Joe's initial post re., use or copyright. It was a simple question - Quote :
- I need your opinion, would you buy a photograph that's signed or un-signed by the artist ?

It was followed by one of his art pieces, inferring that his question was about what he should do for his own art sales. BTW, when a photo is watermarked with an URL and name, it's usually because the owner DOESN'T want you lifting it and using it for your own purposes. Thinking it's ok to use it because you're giving them additional publicity ("they got what they wanted) is an erroneous assumption. |

James) I paid the person $300.00 for "That erroneous assumption."
In my book I have this acknowledgment - and the photographs cost me over $400.00
The author gratefully acknowledges the assistance provided by the "AsociaciĆ³n Maria Reiche," Nasca, Peru, in providing the photographs of the figures on the Nascan Plateau that are used herein. Without the photographic detail it may not have been possible to have solved the question of their origin! / |

| Great. You left that out in your first post, though. You just discussed the watermarks, saying that by your using them, they'd "get what they wanted." Personally, if I paid $300 for a photograph, I'd insist that watermarks be left off. I put credits in a caption line. I don't "acknowledge" people who received large sums for their work. I credit them. |

The figures are ancient Egyptian

| Not hijacked Joe. Just looking at the big picture - and putting significance to the matter of identifying the source of the art, photos, etc.
Knowing that the photos (in my case) were taken by Maria Reiche carried a lot of weight for the readers that had an interest and knowledge of the Nascan figures. A lot more weight than if they had been mine because she had name recognition |
