I've always liked Bill Clinton, but some of the things he's been saying recently makes me wonder if he's flipped out. Maybe he's just been overly anxious to get back to the White House.

I think she might be inclined to change the locks and make sure he doesn't have a key.

I must agree with you Dick. He has really made some blunders lately. And I think you are also right, Pam. I doubt that their marriage will last very long even if she carries him back to the white house. I have held the opinion for quite a while now that he has hurt her campaign far more than help it.

I heard this morning that Obama has a secure lead and is taking the nomination, so I guess now it's a contest between Obama and McCain.
Is that a contest at all? From the media that I see here, it would appear that Obama will be the next president and McCain's not really anwhere near being a contender.

I guess that means Bill will have to smarten up, put on a tie and get back on to the speaker's circuit and raise some money to pay off Hillary's campaign debts. I'd hate to see the totals on that bill.

Yes, they spent 'mucho dinero' on the campaign, that is for sure. I think that Bill is not in very good favor these days. He has made to distasteful remarks that make some folks cringe, so Hillary had better join him on the speaker's circuit.

The Clinton era is over.

If the Dems are smart they will turn their back on it and move forward into a post Bush era.

Starting with picking a VP candidate who people like and might even provide some future for them.

I just turned 67 years old, and for the first time since I was old enough to vote, I'll be sitting this one out.

I can't see myself voting for four more years of Bush politics, which is what we'll be doing if we vote for McCain, but so far all I've seen from Obama is a man who will say whatever he thinks the audience wants to hear in order to gain their support. I simply cannot bring myself to vote for him.

Unless a great independent shows up, I'll not be voting in 2008.

Maybe you'll change your mind before it's over, Don. From what I've seen and read, Obama has remained very consistent from the beginning. Unfortunately, it will be quite difficult for a black man to be elected in America. In 10 or 15 years it will be different but right now the old prejudices run deep.

So you're 67 now. Still just a kid, huh? The day you were born I was looking forward to my sixteenth birthday so I could drop out of high school. Time sure does fly, and the older you get the faster it goes.

About a month ago I was on the ball field throwing softballs around with my 7 year old grand daughter's ball team, and was having a great time. I still can field a grounder pretty well, although I don't straighten up as quickly as I used to, and I can still put some fire on the ball when I want to. I was flattered a bit later when one of the mothers told me I should consider coaching them next year. I coached girls fast pitch Dixie League ball for a number of years, back in my 40's, and would love to do so again, but I know enough about my limitations now and I know I don't have the stamina to coach any more. When I told the woman that I'd have to pass, she asked why, when I told her that next summer I'd be nearing my 70th birthday, I was once again flattered when she didn't believe it. However, as much as Dick may think I am just a kid, and as flattered as I was when the woman said I didn't look all that old, (whatever that means) after a lifetime of ball playing my body is saying different. The legs don't work anymore, and my back muscles scream at me not to do that again, and to tell the truth I don't think I could handle a group of kids that young and their tendency to run fast, throw the ball wherever, and the way they yell and shout over everything that happens.

So, Dick, in 1941 you were nearly sixteen, getting ready to drop out of school, and probably anticipating joining the Army. Guess people can say what they want to, but you're living proof that a guy can be a success if they have the drive and determination.

I gotta admit that you're older than me, well, actually pretty much older than dirt, but you're wearing your age well.

When you have a moment or two, check out this link, it's a very short article about my brother who died in WWII. I think you'll like it.

What a sad story Don, and yet touching too since you were able to find out what actually happened. That was an impressive effort to link you to the information that you were seeking.

How very tragic, Don. But I am sure you are glad to finally know the truth of the matter.

A truly strange event, Don, one of those one-in-a-million stories. In view of the circumstances it may be just as well that your mother didn't know the details. It's sad, too, that because of the sheer number of deaths in that war it was impossible for many mothers to know exactly what happened to their sons. Again, though, in many cases that was best. It is downright amazing that after all these years you found out about your brother.

Through the 4th Infantry Division Association I know a man named Warren Coate who was a rifle squad leader. One morning two 18-year-old replacements came to his squad. Before noon both were killed. One of their mothers somehow found her son was in Warren's squad and wrote to him asking how her son had died. He couldn't tell her the truth because he couldn't remember which of them had been her son so he followed the usual military routine and told her he had died instantly.

I wonder, did finding the truth about your brother's death make you fell better or did it have the opposite effect? I agree about taps being the saddest sound in the world.

What's amazing me is that there are still Clinton faithfuls. Saying Hillary needs to be on the ticket.

That the Clinton's are still the leadership of the party.

Well, you know, when you lose two straight elections to BUSH, fr crissaskes, you might just wonder if you need new leadership.

(I'm sure there are still Dem faithful who'd run Teddy Kennedy in a minute. )
