Obama/Clinton ticket?

It appears that Obama has clinched the nomination and all that remains to be seen is whether Hillary will be his running mate. That would gather a lot of votes from both the black voters and the female voters, although not everyone votes simply on that criteria.

If McCain wants the White House, I think he has a long way to go and needs to really do some strong campaigning. The republicans have either not been campaigning or have been completely overshadowed by all the hype on the other side. Or maybe I am just not hearing about it!

Hillary wants to talk to Mr. Obama before she announces her plans from what the news is reporting. I think I would like to be a fly on the wall to hear the negotiations in that room!

I'm not sure if an Obama/Clinton ticket is viable after the way those two fought for the nomination. It would probably be a very strong ticket, likely to win if it could be done, but I just not sure if it's doable. One thing does seem sure though, the Democrats have a better chance at the white house than the Republicans, especially after George W. Bush and the Iraq war. I think for the most part, Americans want their nation's troops out of Iraq, not to stay there another 100 years at a cost of tens of trillions of dollars.

What people miss when they try to add up postitives is that negatives add up, too.

Obama needs to run with a nice, likeable smart white guy like Edwards or that Senator from Virginia...somebody electable.

They need to put the Clinton era behind them, and the Bush era as well.

Personally I think Hillary should have run with a nice, likeable smart white guy like, oh maybe Al Gore on the ticket with her. You know, the guy who actually won the 2000 election.

On second thought, I think you're right. America has had enough of Clintons and Bushes. We need someone new in the White House.

I've already said I won't be voting for either Obama or McCain, and I won't.

Maybe an Obama/Clinton ticket will piss a lot of people off, but if they run together it will be pissing those same folks off for the next 16 years. That's 8 with Obama as Prez, and the next 8 with Hillary in the top slot.

Mayby what they need is a none of the above box on the ballot.

This is a scary election! Maybe a write in candidate will pop up somewhere along the road. But I doubt it!

I'm trying to remember the last time the dems had three straight administrations. FDR, wasn't it?

Can't prove it by me Lin. I'm still trying to recover my memory from being brainwashed by the people who believed in Reagan and two Bushs.

You are correct, Lin - FDR and then Truman.
It shouldn't be that way in any country claiming to be a democracy, but race will play a major role in this election. That no longer will be true once everyone born prior to about 1960 is pushing up daisies.

The qualifications to become President of the United States is unclear. It certainly hasn't much to do with education.
Neither Abe Lincoln nor Harry Truman had a college education and they did rather well.
Men with ability and capability don't even seek the office of President. Why would they want to degrade themselves and comprimise their principles by running for President? They must conform to the party line and that is either extreme right or left. There is no middle-of-the-road party although there could be. Middle of the road would mean doing what is right for the average American. Instead we either cater to the wealthy or to the poor. The rich find ways to pay very little tax and the poor pay little if any. The middle class is usually stuck with most of the work and the burden of tax.
Getting elected president in recent years has much to do with the influence of big money and the manipulation of religious organizations to support a popular cause - a cause that is given lip service by the candidate to get elected.

The requirement that one must be born in America to be President has now changed. They have bent those rules for McCain. Seems rules can be bent or changed to suit those with power and influence.

So what else is new?

That's why I favor a draft for president and all elected offices. It couldn't get much worse.

Requierments to be president:
-You must be a natural-born US citizen
-You must be at least 35 years old
-You must have lived in the United States for at least 14 years prior to the election
Those are the requierments as set forth by the US Constitution. The requierments are pritty open-ended, I think something like half the US population meeets those requierments.

Adding those requierments would probably be a good idea. It should be requiered that a presidential candidate be healthy enough to have a high probability of living out their term. It would also be an extremely good idea to requier that all presidential candidates be mentally stable and without any mental problems that would prohibit them from being a successful president. As for education, at absolute minimum, a presidential candidate should have a high school diploma, in my opinion. Preferibly, a presidential candidate should have a college degree. Yes indeed, we need to expect more from presidental candidates than the minimum requierments.
