We are now in the world of information. Do you like to know everything, every moment?
Do you ever feel overloaded with information?

Since I was a kid in 1960 , that's 51 years ago what
a shocker ! I remember you only got 1/2 Hr. of news , that
was it, today it's 24 7 days a week, you can look up on the
internet and find anyone, you can find out anything about
anyone for a price $, now that's shocking but good for women
who want to find out if a guy is for real or a phony. It amazes
me that in my lifetime you have Cellphones, Computers, Microwave
Ovens, I can send a message to you or Shelagh who lives half
across the world in a split second where the mail would take days,
you can pay your bills in hours instead of days by mail. You can
talk to people on the internet , even though I still think an old
fashion letter is proper etiquette , including Christmas cards
unless you don't have their address. What amazes me is all the
authors I've become friends with through publishing and internet
plus the fact that now I can publish through the internet, that I
find mind boggling, Oh yes and Digital Cameras, that is fantastic,I
used to use 35MM with Kodachrome #25 , the slide photos were
awesome ! But with digital you can get a larger format, print in a
instant and send them in an e mail in a split second...

All of those are good, positive changes.
I like them all also.

Our worldview is now, truly, a worldview. We realize, at some level, that we are all part of one single entity. That's what the world wide web has done for us(some would say to us).

Some of us are happy about the change to a broader perspective, and are eager to move into it and find new ways of relating to each other. Others are trying to find a way to reverse things, and others are in denial. It doesn't really matter where each of us is, though. Things have shifted. They are not going to go backwards. The best thing we can do (just me talking) is accept this new view and the changes it is going to require of us.

There are no outsiders anymore. That means there ought to be no enemies.

I agree with you...I find the internet fascinating, not
only all the information and programs that interest me about
art and photography. I remember the first time I saw a computer
in a store for sale, I was amazed watching someone watching a
video, I thought this is awesome !

I like your view--there should be no enemies! That is a very good change.

I was so proud of my aunt she learrned to email at age 90+.
I wanted my mother- in- law to learn, she refused. I am so glad.
A relative we both love is on Facebook openly declaring his gayness. This would upset her terribly.
It does not bother me, because I have known it since he was about three years old.
It is rather strange for the whole world to know without her knowing, but I won't be the one to tell her.

I remember my son David's first computer. He was nine years old when I
got him a Commodore Vic20 keyboard, a cassette drive, a cable to hook to
a TV screen, converting it into a monitor, and two wire-bound books on
basic programming. The whole thing cost $68 at Sears.

BTW, we replaced the Vic20 with a Commodore 64 at about $200.

It was much cheaper than the Apple II that my friends were forking out for their kids, and could do the same work.

He used it until he left for grad school, when his dad decided he needed something more suitable for his new role.

Life without computers would be very difficult now.

I recall my final paper from Accounting class in 1988. I had no computer and the scene was ridculous. Paper was strewn all over the kitchen floor as I typed, retyped and discarded pages from my report.

A computer would have helped immensely.

I believe K-Mart bought Sears and will be doing some combining along the way. Already K-Mart valued customer points may be used at Sears. My K-Mart store said they will be selling appliances. I hope the K-Mart picks up because my favorite Target store, six blocks away, is closing because of a Super Target six miles up the street. Talk about change...

I always had a world view because I read everything I could about exotic foreign countries and began traveling extensively by the time I was 21, never stopping for more than three years or so in any one place. There are very few places where I have not broken bread with local people and learned at least a few things about their culture.

Technology was my forte early on; I was a programmer in several software applications and was pretty much in the first wave knowledge. I had a home in Cupertino when it exploded with technology.

Somewhere in the 90's, I became more of an administrator of people and technology slipped way ahead of me. I am still catching up, but not totally pleased with all I've learned and have yet to know. There are just too many gaps. I get just so far and then it all falls apart.

I believed that as world communication improved, we would learn to care about each other instead of finding new pockets of hate material. I am disappointed that my belief is not true. There is as much hate and bigotry as ever before, just at a sub level or regarding a new group of people.

The methods of communication have improved, but as yet, the level of communication is still focused on maintaining boundaries rather than embracing world unity. Hate and bigotry are the result of the fear of those who are different, and of a need to find someone to project our own shortcomings onto. Once we can accept ourselves, it will be easier to accept others. The technology is a forward step, but it will still take a higher level of insight on the part of more individuals. We still have a way to go. The important thing is to stay the course. Try not to get discouraged.

Here's where I am. I do not feel it necessary to know others income, home value, credit history, etc. I can stand to keep those details about myself private as well.
It used to be very private--I do miss that.

This is what I call overload.
I guess I will just have to adjust to it.

If there was a Passport available that would give the person the title "Citizen of the World" Iwould apply. When one is identified by the thinking/actions of any one country, the citizen is sterotyped/branded and that is unfortunate.
I do forsee a break with this pattern with more communication, and that is enhanced via the I-Net. That can not replace eye-to-eye contact and verbal communication, although eye-to-eye contact can often be misleading and cause pre-judgement.
Shaking someone's hand and looking them in the eye can shatter pre-conceived notions. That is not possible with the I-Net.

Having a world-view is more important today than ever before. Countries are world-connected and are dependent on each other.
I forsee communication between people without the use of techlological devices. As humans progress, evolve, they will communicate telepathically. This I believe. The power of the mind is being taken more seriously. The I-Net may then become an item in our history books.
