| I am still musing. I had to see my doctor today. I love her, but she makes me laugh. I had a bad gastric attack yesterday. Bad, bad, very bad. She could not get me in. I went online and found honey would fix me--tried it and it worked. I went to see her today. I must take a pill. I told her the honey worked. She got to going on pills. I said they made me sick. She said I should take them. One of them, I said, turned people into diabetics. She said,""You don't have to worry about that you are already one." "I don't want to be a worse one " Gotta love um. She decided she just must see me twice a year. I said," I thought you were supposed to kill the old people." I should have said, "I don't have time to see you twice a year. There are other doctors who wish to see me also." |

| Dear Alice, I have had a big pain in my neck and shoulder for a week. All I wanted was a pain pill to uncramp my neck. "If you can get here at 1:30, the doctor can work you in". That was as 12:45. I live 45 minutes from the nearest doctor, so I said I will hurry. I did not even wash my hands, took off like a bat out of hell, and got there at 1:26. By 2:15 they put me in a little room. At 3:30 I was still sitting there. I could see the doctor going in an out, there were no other patients there, I was it. At 3:45 he came in, said I had a spastic Trapizius muscle from picking strawberries, that the only thing I could do about it was not pick strawberries. I said, well, they will all rot. So he searched his data base on his computer, decided that I should have prednisone and some Vicodin. I would like to have kicked him in his most sensitive spot and told him that vicodin will have to do for that pain too. The nurse said she had called the prescription in. I went to the pharamcy, they had not called it in. I waited 30 minutes and asked if it had been called in. Yes it had, but it would be 2 hours before they could get it filled because they only did first come first served. That was at 4:30. I went home.
David picked up the prescription, I put the heating pad on my shoulder and went to bed.
I did not enjoy that whole thing one bit.
Love, Betty |

| Betty,
Your doctor sounds like a pain in the neck to me.
Hope you are better fast. Good luck with the Prednisone--that drives me crazy.
Love ya,
Alice |

| Betty, stories like this are never told. The anti-healthcare reformers make reference to other countries with government controlled healthcare where they claim people must wait in line for hours for treatment. They take isolated incidences and make it sound like standard practice.
Your story would do well in showing how wonderful our health care is. The key word is "care". Is it standard practice? |

| 3/6/2010 Betty.. On Wed. I went to the Pulomnary Dr., Appt. was for 4:00 PM , arrived at 3:40 PM. Waited till 5:00 Pm when nurse called me in, she took vitals including oxygeon level which read 91. Fifteen minutes later new Dr. looks in and say : " Are you Vivian so and so ? I said we'll I haven't grown breasts in the last hour, I don't think so..Finally at 5:30 he came in , sort of lost, he's new from Chicago. Talked for a half an hour... Today went to my GP Dr. to check my oxygeon level and my Diabetes numbers, evidently I stay on one pill a day because my levels have been dropping to 45, 55, 65 no good , they should be 75 - 120 readings, so no more two pills a day. Then he had the nurse attache the oxygeon reader to my finer and as I call it walk the dog, walk all over to get a correct reading, reading was 81 , not good. The Pulmonary Dr. said my reading was 91 but my GP said you can't get a true reading sitting down...So I may need a night oxygeon machine , .....I'm exhausted ! Love Joe |

Skip the pulmonary doctor. Your GP sounds much better.
Take care, breathing is vital. |

| David,
You are the best!
Why do we feel better the farther we stay away from doctors? |

| I never know what my doctor will think up. One time I went and had gone to the ER the weekend before very, very, ill, thinking it was my last night on earth. He said I was fine, that the blood tests at the ER showed I had an infection and not an increase in cancer.
So last Wednesday I went to the doctor. I've been feeling well, many previous problems like eating, sleeping, blood pressure, etc., taken care of. Pain only at night. He had me get x-rays. They are painless but getting up off the x-ray table is excruciating and then the x-rays are always the same. They showed no improvement and he said I was not as well as I thought I was and needed a weekly infusion of chemo, that the pills I was taking were not enough. I was very upset, but finally got my mind settled down when I got safely home.
The day after the three hour chemo I felt terrific, got loads of stuff done around the house, exercised, walked. The next day I felt terrible because I took the wrong pill at night and did not sleep. I took a white pill, not the pink one. Darn!
So it is an ongoing saga. Sometimes I like my doctor, sometimes I don't.
Love, Carol |

| Sometimes the doctor acts like an auto mechanic. Puts the car on a diagnostic machine, ignores the customer complaint, and gives a quick fix by changing a part. When that doesn't work, your go back and they try something else.
It's not so easy to change a body part and repair is most often the only option. How to make the repair differs between doctors just as with mechanics. Good thing there are pills to ease the pain and delay the damage.
Carol, I think your positive attitude goes a long way in dealing with your health problems. The mind is a powerful thing. |

| Maybe not all doctors think like that?! Doctors are usually good. It's dentists that are harder on you from my experience.
One of my friends dad, who passed away many years ago, had a story to tell. His english was zilch, he wasn't capable of understanding the medical form even if he read it before signing it. After 10 minutes of surgery, when he recovered from the anaesthetic... several of his last remaining teeth had been pulled out. What he had signed for was a routine check up - he thought. He was quite literally gob smacked!
True story.. |

| The lady sat in the dentist's chair and said, "I don't know which is worse. Having my tooth pulled or having a baby." The dentist said, "Make up your mind lady so I know how to adjust the chair." |
