It looks delicious but it's made with garden peas. Mushy peas are made from marrowfat peas:

The peas are hard dried to small grey pellets. Before cooking, the dried peas are soaked overnight with bicarbonate of soda:

They don't taste like peas. They are similar to beans used for baking but have a more distinctive flavour.
