Mindscapes now available for recommendation to libraries

After doing a search for DK's Ghost Orchid in my LiveBrary "Books to Recommend" button, I tried searching for my own books under my full name and also came up blank. I then tried a search for my latest book, Mindscapes: Ten Science Fiction and Speculative Fiction Short Stories, along with my full name, Victor D. Lopez, and the book magically appeared for purchase recommendation. It is apparently now available to library subscribers for purchase which surprised me. I then searched for my Intellectual Property book which sells much better than Mindscapes and it is not available. I smiled and scratched my head. At least I take one of my books now being available for libraries to purchase and users to recommend as a very good sign. I don't know whether the audiobook version or the eBook versions are available, but I'll take what I can get.

I'll be searching for our friend's recent books in the same way and will recommend any I can find for purchase. My experience in the past is that my library at least has always purchased every title I recommended to date including my last recommendation for "Please Stop Helping Us: How Liberals Make It Harder for Blacks to Succeed" by Jason L. Riley which I am now reading.


If you'd like to read my latest book, please recommend it to your LiveBrary account. The early reviews for Mindscapes and the short stories sold individually have been very gratifying to date, but it is a book very few people have seen. I am encouraged that libraries may now make the book available, at least in electronic form. The paperback version is available in at least one library according to a quick search, but more importantly, I'm glad to see that at least some independently published titles are now becoming available for direct purchase by libraries through their normal channels. That made my day.

After taking a second look, I noticed eight of the nine stand-alone short stories are also available through LiveBrary. two of these I've made free for libraries, so you can recommend them guilt free.    The short stories free to libraries are "Eternal Quest" (still my favorite for 30+ years) and "Two Speculative Fiction Short Stories: Justice and The Riddle of the Sphinx: Solved."

My poetry and intellectual property books are not yet available for some reason that escapes me. Both are available at 33 and 50 percent off the retail price for libraries. (Mindscapes is 25 percent off for libraries.)

Thanks, Alice, but about the only thing I'm the best at is "the best infuriatingly stubborn, disorganized husband on the face of the planet" as my Alice will verify with a roll of the eyes if asked (and even if she is not asked . . . )

Still looking for eBooks by our friends here--both the ones I've read and the ones I'd like to read. For paperbacks and hard cover books, I need to find whether my library has an online form to recommend titles.

I recommended your Mr. Planemaker's Flying Machine eBook version to my library for purchase and look forward to reading it. the Textbook you found is my first 1993 textbook for Irwin/Mirror Press later published by McGraw-Hill. It still lives in an updated 2nd edition through my current publisher, Textbook Media. A number of my books are in libraries, including my first book on shareware which at one time was widely distributed to libraries, but none of my new audiobooks  showed up in a search to recommend new titles to libraries who use LiveBrary for their eBooks and Audiobooks. So far I've only found some of yours and mine and recommended Mr. Planemaker's for purchase. If my library buys it, I'll recommend others as well.

I did a search under my full name and the first six books that came up in WorldCat and the are all mine, with some available in many libraries (including at least one copy of my intellectual property book and Book of dreams 2e) but these are all hard or soft cover books. None of my eBooks appeared anywhere until very recently. (I had last checked a few weeks ago with no titles showing.)

My library does not list Ghost Orchid (just The Ghost Orchid by Carol Goodman) and it does not show up on the digital titles to recommend search. The eBook platform my library uses is Live-brary (powered by Overdrive). I tried both a title and author search yesterday, today and also in the past. Let me know if I'm missing something as I'd like to recommend the title. By the way, all of my eBooks are also on Overdrive (also Kaker & Taylor, etc.) but the intellectual property, poetry and one of the short stories do not show up on a Live-brary "titles to recommend" search either--at least not as of yesterday. It has nothing to do with sales rank as my intellectual property book sells a lot better than anything else I've published except my textbooks.

I found my books at the Lee County Library under Christi, D. K. and zero books under D. K. Christi!  Same for Ghost Orchid - not there except for the Goodman book.  Yet I have two under Christi, D. K., Arirang and Ghost Orchid.

This has been an interesting quest, Victor.  Thanks for getting it started.

The Overdrive link you pointed to shows libraries that have your book, but the Overdrive link needed to recommend new books to libraries that use Live-brary is a different issue and a different link. There, I can't find your book or you. It makes no sense, any more than only some of my books being available when all are distributed through Overdrive, Baker & Taylor, Library Direct and other distributors that sell to libraries. None of my books appear on a straight Overdrive search since that only shows books already purchased by libraries through Overdrive. My books are in numerous libraries, but in the paperback and hard cover editions so that they do not show up on an Overdrive search.  (Some do show up on a World Cat and similar searches, such as http://www.worldcat.org/search?qt=worldcat_org_all&q=victor+d.+lopez If you click on the link and then on any of my books, it shows some of the libraries where they are currently located.) But if you search for me in your library's "Live-brary" eBook lending system (if it participates in Live-brary, obviously) under "Advanced Search" and select "Additional Titles to recommend" you will find about nine of my eBooks in various versions, but not others. In such a search, you and your boosk do not appear, so I can't recommend them to my library--at least not yet. the same is true for all of our fellow authors here whom I've looked up so far except for Shelagh.

Not a very consistent system it appears - all bits not connecting with all other bits.  Thanks for  trying and setting me in that direction too.
