Stuff I wonder if I am brave enough to try Empty
PostSubject: Stuff I wonder if I am brave enough to try   Stuff I wonder if I am brave enough to try EmptySat Feb 09, 2013 5:00 pm

I do not feel overwhelmed with my artistic abilities. In my mind, I can see what should be the outcome of my eye and hand onto paper but when I try to put it on the paper, it is a mess....nothing like my mind envisioned.I have it in my mind to illustrate each Tale of the Wooffer's Woods and put them out on Create Space as printed books. I will jump off the deep end tomorrow and try to draw the first story.

Along the way, if anyone who is an artist wants to jump in and help, I will be so ever gratefull.

Love, Betty

I hear what you are saying. I have always wanted to do a small, illustrated version of "Ode to a Lost Warrior" as a companion to A Myth in Action. I thought it would be cool to have it available at book signings, but I never got the courage to try - like you, I can see the drawings in my head, but cannot get the sketches to come out the way I want them to.

But you should give it a try - your covers are amazing.

Google "drawing tutorials" and lots of stuff comes up. I just skimmed, but some looked very useful.

This is one time I wonder about Publish America. Illustrating children's books is difficult. I see in PA ads that illustration of children's books is "free" at PA.

On the otherhand, as of 2/8 I am free of my seven-year indenture.. hooray!

I already started retyping as I am breaking it into two or three different novels. It was much too long for today's readers and it naturally breaks into Asia, Caribbean and xxxxx - for which I don't have a category.

When I sent my Wooffer to PA, I did so as a Word file. I used that original Word file (actually, the Word file that our Shelagh edited for me) to create the Kindle version. I did not try to convert the pdf from PA. I used my own original file, edited by Shelagh. It was like a new beginning for Wooffer's Tales.

I started with Smashbooks guidelines, and used their Word format. From there, mobipocket was not that difficult to use.

I must admit that it is a miracle that anything I have written is up on Kindle. I am flabbergasted by computer lingo.

Smashwords guide is great! Shelagh is great! Everyone here is great! Like DK says, "What a team!"

PostSubject: Re: Stuff I wonder if I am brave enough to try   Stuff I wonder if I am brave enough to try EmptyTue Feb 26, 2013 2:38 pm

Today, I had this fantastic idea.

If I could depict Wooffer and his friends as comic strip characters similar to Snoopy and Garfield, produce an ongoing story strip online on my web site, and illustrate each little story on Amazon using those comic strip characters, it would make me smile a lot.

Perhaps a course in cartoon art would help me.

What do you all think?

Love,

Betty

Dusty could be in it, too.

I think the strip could be called, "So, There I Was.." hahahah

Thanks, Domenic, I got my text from PA and a very generous friend formatted it for me.

I have to give Ann credit for this idea for the illustrations for the Tales of Wooffer's Woods stories.

I have been looking up tutorials for comic strip animal art and found a simple instruction tutorial that I think I can accomplish. Kind of a Dick and Jane rendition. I am encouraged to try. I will begin with Old Agnes and post the pictures here via photobucket. Each story could have 3 or 4 illustrations. I hope, in color.

I do need encouragement!

Love,

Betty

Dear Joe,

You are so much more artistically inclined than I am. I need basic...and I do mean basic... instructions. here is the site.

http://www.how-to-draw-cartoons-online.com/index.html

It is the proporions that I have trouble with,,,well all of it. I looked at these instructions for the cat and it seems so simple. It is emotional inflections and coloring that will be a real challenge. I mean, Wooffer is mostly black. I was thinking about Tweety Bird and her mom where only the mom's feet and bottom of her skirt are ever in the frame. I wondered if I could do that with the rendition of Wooffer so that he would represent anyone's dog. Then, I could work on Old Agnes and Camille and the rest of the friends of Wooffer's woods. It is just an idea. It all starts with an idea, though.

Love,

Betty

I do my best work a little influenced.
