Miracles Do Happen!

My brother is alive and getting better. He even let us take him to visit a doctor.
It is so nice to be reconnected with him. He is talking about Viet Nam and the gore he saw.No wonder he checked out of reality.

Many years ago, my stepfather was on life support. He wasn't supposed to be; the nursing home did not follow his written instructions. He was in Michigan and I was in Florida when my mom called and needed me there because she had to instruct them now to remove the life support and he might immediately pass.

Most of their marriage, my stepdad was estranged from his children by a former marriage. They went on to lead their own lives, marry, have children, all without including him thanks to a bitter ex-spouse in the same town.

It was a small town and I had remained friends with a man who was buds with my stepdad's son. I called my friend as I drove to Michigan from Florida and told him he might should tell the son that his father would soon pass.

For three months after life support was removed, my stepdad rallied. He ate, he communicated and visiting with him was positive. I don't know how we managed not to cross paths, but during that time his children, their spouses and his grandchildren all came to visit.

He passed in his sleep and the funeral was announced in the paper. His children and their spouses attended and conversations revealed that his son received the call from my friend, notified the rest of the family and the rest was history.

Every year, my mom sends and receives Christmas cards from his children. Yes, Alice, miracles do happen.
