| I wonder if I am wrong in remembering the Summer Olympics including the High Jump, The Shot Put, and Foot Races. The Pole Vault. Where are those events? Are they in another Olympics? All I see is Swimming, Diving and Volley Ball and gymnastics. Are other things yet to come and I am in a time warp all my own with no clue? Love, Betty |

| I did see that a Canadian bloke came in forth place in shot put today. Perhaps the sports you seek are coming into the fore this week Betty. |

| Betty, those events you describe are the first of the olympic games. The track and field has now started. You'll see more of that when Americans begin to win their metals. |

| The story I liked was the Polish athlete who won a gold medal and was so proud of it he had it bronzed.
Then the guy from Texas won a gold medal and broke it trying to get the chocolate out from inside it.
Meanwhile only one Mexican has medalled. Down at the border we say that's because any Central American who can swim, jump or run is in the USA.

Love, Betty ... and the greatest Olympian of all time is ... an American swimmer! Michael Phelps won his seventh gold medal in the Olympics by one hundreth of a second (0.01) -- races don't come much closer or more exciting than that! If you missed it, you can watch the BBC video here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/swimming/7564656.stm |

| Bolt from Jamaica shattered the world record in the 100 Meter dash. It is so fantastic as to be suspicious. |

| Bolt even slowed down a bit at the finish line with a little showboating; but he still got a new world record.
Me, I applaud any 41-year-old swimmer who can effectively compete against people half her age. Good for you, Darra!

| I quit watching the Olympics when they decided to allow professionals to compete. That includes the local boy, Lebron James. |

| Lin... You forgot to add... The redneck southerner made his gold medal into a belt buckle. |

| Having been schooled in the choreography of gentleman swordfighting as demonstrated by Basil Rathbone and Errol Flynn, I find Olympic fencing to be nought but awkward lunging collisions between the opponents. Does anyone else see it that way?

| Dear Jim, What flair Basil and Errol had! A dance with swords. In my college days at Arizona State, I was a pitiful allusion to fencing. I tried. I loved the mask. That was in the days before anyone thought it was cool. I do not fence in these days. More likely you will find me putting up fence. Only today, My David and I discussed goats as an eating machine for vegetables that are not sold. We plan a big hydroponic stacker operation that will be installed this fall. By us. I do have to get out of the mud. Love, Betty |

| Betty, When I lived in California in brushfire country, we kept goats to clear the dry grass and weeds on the hillside as a fire prevention solution. One old goat Saanen named Agnew--another story--found his way into an ancient stand of prickly pear cactus that was two stories high and the volume of our living room We didn't see him for three days. He ate a tunnel into and up and around inside the cactus and finally reduced it to little more than vapor. We moved him to Arizona with us, just one of the family. Goats are good people.

| Dear Jim, What Talent! What form! What Grace, and the smile was great. Who was that? He/She deserves some sort of medal. It just goes to show that talent is rampant and ready to be a surprise. Love, Betty |
