What causes my laptop to buzz like an angry bee?

It scares me. affraid

harddrive going out? overheating? Turn it off quickly.

The fan is working hard to cool down the laptop. We have computers with electronic micro chips the size of a small fingernail and a mechanical fan that whirls round like a deranged bee. State of the ARK!

You most likely have something catching on the fan.
The inlet grill for the fan is located on the bottom of the laptop and they have been known to get things enter through this. The outlet is on the back or side of the laptop.
If you look underneath you may see the grill is quite dusty. A blow through with a can of compressed air through the outlet usually clears all the crud and should free up the fan. Very Happy

Hey, my computer sounds like a WWII bomber taking off...all day long. It's okay. I'm used to it now. Some day when I hit the BIG TIME I'll buy a snazzy new computer and hire a flunky to compute for me while I doze on the patio.

In the meantime, may I suggest using something like Google drive? It's free and easy to use, and if (or when) the thing finally goes, you haven't lost your life's work.

I was lucky. My old computers did not die until just after I got my new one, but it would have been OK, because all of my works in progress were safely stored with Google.
