Cynthia's Attic Series - Mary Cunningham 51VGtSZLeCL._AA240_

Magical costumes, disappearing stairs and a spooky attic filled with dusty antiques–what more could two adventurous young girls ask for? Best friends, Cynthia and Augusta Lee, or ‘Gus’ as she prefers to be called, are as “different as bubble gum and broccoli.”

In The Missing Locket , trying to escape the “boring summer” of 1964, the adventurous twelve-year-old girls stumble upon a trunk in Cynthia’s attic that has been in her family for three generations.

They discover its mystical qualities when they are swept into the trunk and whisked back to 1914, literally into the lives of their twelve-year-old grandmothers, Clara and Bess. The mystery of a missing family locket is revealed, and Cynthia and Gus are compelled to solve its half-century disappearance.

The Magic Medallion showcases sinister clowns, stalkers on horseback, mystical forests, and the Creepy, Crawling Curse.

The journey of Cynthia, and her best friend, Gus, continues with the magic trunk in Cynthia's Attic that transports them back to a 1914 circus. Running from a Blackie, a sinister clown, they meet a Gypsy fortune-teller whose family has lost their entire fortune to a wayward son. Friendship and an undeniable sense of adventure, take this twosome on a dangerous journey to recover the family's prized possession, a magic medallion.

In the latest adventure, Curse of the Bayou, this time-traveling duo meet colorful pirates, SuRana, a shape-shifting puma, and an old Cajun guide named Mud Bug.

The twelve-year-old best friends travel through the magic trunk in Cynthia's attic to a 1914 Louisiana bayou searching for Cynthia's great-grandfather, Beau Connor. Discovering a connection between Beau and Buzzard Jack LaBuse, the meanest, orneriest pirate this side of the Mississippi, leads to a heart-stopping confrontation to recover a long-lost treasure and lift a family curse.

Mary, these sound like great fun. Great reading for the young, and the young at heart.
