I don't get it, why would PA transfer author's books
to Amazon when their already being sold on Amazon
and Amazon has their free publishing program, look
it up.... Read this below from Amazon on their publishing.

Get rid of a few authors --I prefer
Amazon as my publisher because their book prices are lower.
It would not be self-published.

I am smelling a rat. They probably offer them the rights all right--at a high price and they decline. I will not pay if that is the case.

Here is my thought on the matter. I believe the fee you are paying is for PA to submit your book to Amazon publishing for their consideration. I don't see any guarantee that they will actually consider it. PA is acting like an agent; however, agents collect their fees once the manuscript is accepted, not before.

Amazon publishing has an imprint; I believe they currently are selecting titles already available on Amazon.com (which would include yours that's already there) that are self-published and have some sales success. I don't know if they consider PA as self-published - they should - but I don't know.

They will also eventually (maybe now) accept manuscripts through agents. Whether they will accept manuscripts from authors directly is not in my knowledge bank.

I wonder.

If the only way to reach PublishAmerica is by email to Author Support, or speak to a recording that they never acknowlege, is there a legal way to send a registered email letter to them. There has to be a way to do it, otherwise they would never get any request that the author wishes to end the contract after seven years.

Perhaps the registered letter receipt is enough. I would hope a person does not have to hire a lawyer to send the letter to them.

For my self, I will send the letter certified and registered to the P.O. Box and consider that my rights are my own. I do not expect to hear anything from them. They cannot be bothered to change my email address and I have not heard any thing from them for several years.
My Wooffer will not be published again under the same title.

The address on my royalty statement is dated January 2011. P.O. Box 151, Frederick, MD 21705.

Love, Betty

I heard from them immediately concerning my assertion that I owned the electronic rights to my book.
They answer quickly when they feel like it.

I emailed them today and inquired the outcome of their offer to transfer rights.
I will not inquire again.
If I hear nothing, I will not pay.
Part of the deal was being informed.

I do not feel informed in the least. affraid

Amazon Publishing? - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: Amazon Publishing?   Amazon Publishing? - Page 2 EmptyFri May 27, 2011 7:41 am

I find myself amazed at times at how we change our views so easily. I published my first novel with PA. I read all the hype and bad reviews, but like so many authors, I was anxious to see my first novel in print. PA offered me the deal of a lifetime. And that was??? To publish my first novel. To allow me the chance to get my foot in the door, so to speak. I DID buy and I DID sell many books at signings. Yes I had to do the foot work and loved every minute of it.

My amazement comes from the fact that a LOT of authors here were published by PA. I am sure, like me, you were estatic seeing your book in print. Walking in to stores and pulling it off the shelf to look at it. Proud to think I actually had a novel on the market. And now?????

Did PA do for me what I thought they might do? {Shrugs} Did I learn quickly what publishing with a POD publisher reallyyyyyyyy meant? Oh yes, I did. A mix of excitement and disappointment ravished my thoughts. But I kept coming back to this thought. I wanted my novel published. PA promised to do that at no cost to me nor was I obligated in any way to buy anything. They did Exactly what they said they would do, no less and admittedly, no more.

Funny how, after we had our books in hand, we found 1000 things wrong with PA. Hmmmmm???? Alice, you did just fine. PA may not be the "Harper Collins" we wish they were. They may not go too far with promoting our books but, they did put it in print. They will make it an e-book if I wish and they have faithfully sent my royalty check, whether big or small, to me 2 times a year. Will I renew my contract in September? I don't know yet. I guess we will see what hapens then.

The one thing I Will not do is bash the very company that gave me my first novel. I will forever be grateful that they took my first novel when no one else did. From that point, it was my choice to go with another publisher. I wish you great things Alice. I hope this brings more satisfaction to you. I wish that for every author here. When you are in doubt, take your novel in hand, and remember, it IS in print...

DDay...

I don't think anyone here has ever bashed PA, Yes we
are greatful we had our first novel published. I had four with
them. I look at the four novels and I'm amazed I did that,
plan to go on to do other things with my books, like selling
the rights to my books for film or TV. What is your book about ?
We all agree here we had a happy journey but it's time to move
on , I think over a five, six year period we grow and we learn.

Cheers..Joe

PA is not typical of "POD" publishers. Many are good and do what they say on the can, "Publish your book" and get it into places where it can be sold.
A lot of them won't take all your rights either.
I am not with PA and would think twice about going with them.
I would also avoid Author House who share similarities with PA in the way they operate.
There are some good offers out there and Amazon looks ok.
My current publisher YouWriteon.com are funded by the UK Arts Council and exist to promote new authors giving them opportunities to develop their writing and be seen by mainstream publishing houses. They do not charge outrageous fee's or
pester you to buy your own books.

dday,
minds are not changed as easily as you suggest. Many on this forum were staunch defenders of PA for a long time, and we don't trash PA. If we can't speak truth then we are deceiving ourselves. Alice don't take BS from anyone and that includes her publisher.
Keeping informed about publishers, markets, agents is what we try to do on this forum. If we find something good, we share it. If we experience something bad, we share that also. An good authors forum requires open communication. I think we have that here.

I could not agree more with you Abe. Diversity of thoughts is why we continue to think and ask and answer. I do aploigize if my words seemed to offend. Just thoughts being made aloud.I think truly I have found this to be one of the more open and honest sites. Helping one another reach a common goal is always a good thing.

Joe, my novel's are suspense thrillers, ghost stories, witches and Sci Fi. Passing on to you all, though you are probably already aware, if you are looking for agreat way to promote your books, seek out your local libraries. I have sold All of my novels to my local libraries and do a lot of signings there. I am given a booth at the State Fair by the Library and sells are good there too. Something to look into...

DDAY...

Congratulations, that's a great idea. I had a year
ago two book signings here. As for the library here they
don't buy books, so I donate them, I figure who ever
checks them out will get to know me and my writings.

Cheers..Joe

DDAY,

I have stuck up and stuck up for PA. My book is nonfiction I am very glad they published me, I love the cover of my book.

My second book was published by Mandinam Press, I am very glad about that too. I love the cover even more.

I am dismayed by the direction PA has taken on marketing schemes to their authors.

That's it.

Amazon Publishing? - Page 2 950944 I've never understood the criticism of PA's business model. All the PA authors say how pleased they are with their books and the opportunity ... and yet they carp about all the promotional emails (that they will not stop, just in case there is an offer that is too good to miss). I've asked time and time again for members here not to post about PA, but they continue to do so. Even Dick used to start topics about PA and apologise to me for doing so, knowing that I'd asked him not to. Sheeesh.

Not your fault. I am sorry, I was unaware also. I know everyone who commented here did not mean to offend Shelagh.

We were all unaware. I respectfully request no more comments on this thread.
