Make life fun
+++++++++++++++++++

Instead of looking for reasons to complain, look for ways to
laugh. If you run out of things to do, try smiling.

Have fun, laugh out loud, figure out what you enjoy the most
and get yourself involved in doing it. Challenge yourself to
put more fun into whatever you're doing.

Do you want to be encouraged, motivated, inspired,
enthusiastic and full of energy? Then spend your time doing
what you enjoy and enjoying what you do.

It's not really that difficult to transform a dismal,
frustrating, disappointing day into a delightful one. Just
stop focusing so much on the bad stuff and make the choice
to make life fun.

No, it's not irresponsible or disrespectful to have fun.
What's truly irresponsible is to go through life with your
joy buried so deep that nobody ever benefits from it.

So go ahead, let the joy flow out from you as you give your
energy and awareness to what really matters. Make life great
by making life fun.

Right on, Alice.

On another note:

Rabbitohs -30; Titans - 24

I do love it when this team of bunnies defeats at team like the mighty Titans.

There was an especially poignant moment in last night's game.  You may have seen the little video clip a few pages back, of the Rabbitohs fullback, Greg Inglis (considered one of the best in the game), ran for a 95 yard try and scored.  It's a fairly regular occurrence for this player.  It happens that he has a younger first cousin who is starting to make a name for himself. Sorry, I can't remember it at the moment.  I do remember that the cousin plays for the Titans, and the two close relatives were squaring off against each other.  A moment came when one of the bunnies made an error, and Greg's cousin was in a position to take advantage.  He got the ball, spun, and took off, outrunning nearly every player on the Souths team - except his cousin Greg.  Fir several seconds the game became a foot race between the two of them  The stands got very quiet. You could see the family resemblance between the two - same set of bulky shoulders, same powerful stride. Finally, Inglis made a little extra push, pulled alongside his cousin and pulled him to the ground, several yards short of the goal. It took the stands an extra fraction of a second to begin cheering.  The two cousins stood up, faced each other, and then, at the same moment, embraced each other, right there on the field, in one of the tightest bear hugs ever seen between two grown men.  The mythology of "the games" was so apparent.  You could not help but feel the joy of it.

I'm staying with my parents in Lancashire. On Friday, we went out for a pub lunch with my brother. As we were leaving, my brother saw someone he knew that I didn't. He stopped to say hello and introduced us to the main supplier of rugby league equipment for all the rugby league teams in Australia, including the Rabbitohs. You can see (and buy) the range of Rabbitohs gear on his website here:

http://www.downunderleisure.co.uk/cgi-bin/ss000002.pl?page=search&PR=-1&TB=A&SS=rabbitohs&ACTION=search

or buy a baseball cap here:

Thanks for the link, Shelagh.

This pic was recently tweeted by the director of "Noah," who is back in Iceland getting bits of film that he missed getting last summer when the main filming was being done:

In the meantime, the Australian Daily Telegraph posted an article which included this ani (animation):

Ann's Joy Thread - Page 19 636523-inglis-stops-kelly
It prompted another Bunny fan from another forum to comment that even the tackle itself showed the affection between these two cousins who found themselves competing against each other.  That comment pointed out that Inglis's tackle had a gentleness to it - an embrace that carefully pulled his cousin and friend out of the action.  Maybe it's my imagination, but I think I see what she meant.

The cousins name, BTW is Albert Kelly.

synchronicity. Just returned with my brother from a day out to Salts Mill:

http://www.saltsmill.org.uk/

I asked my mother if she knew the cricket results (she loves cricket!), but she didn't know, so I checked the result on TV. After checking the result, I clicked back to the sports channel and there was Russell Crowe saying to the camera: "I may be Maximus Decimus Meridius, I may be Javert, I may be Jor-El ... but what I really want to be is a rugby league player." Who would have thunk?

I think I posted that one on the Man of Steel thread, but it's worth repeating here.

The Burgess brothers they are talking about are from Yorkshire:

Ann's Joy Thread - Page 19 807355-burgess-brothers
Luke (far left), the oldest is out right now with injuries, George and Tom, the two youngest, are twins(I think that's George on the left); It's Tom's first season, so he's still in reserve, but it's George's first year on the team and he's giving his older brother Sam (one of the team's best) a run for his money.

I've rec ently shared pictures of middle daughter Susan.  Tonight I would like to share a picture of their "boys," and tell you a little about their story.  (much of which, if you've been around for a while, you already know)  First, the boys, in the family room of their home in Colorado:Ann's Joy Thread - Page 19 7311_10201216444075772_991178039_n

PostSubject: Re: Ann's Joy Thread   Ann's Joy Thread - Page 19 EmptyMon Jun 17, 2013 5:37 pm

I'm having a bit of trouble with the new posting boxes tonight.  Let's see if we can continue from here. On the far left is Ranger.  I don't know him very well. When Susan and Jim left Helotes (just west of SA) for Colorado, he was just a tiny puppy with humongous feet.

Next is Waylon - the eldest and the only true Texan (I am so embarrassed.  I thought his name was Weyland until I got an email from Susan with the correct spelling.)  I mean -this is a big and regal dog. Wouldn't he have a proper English name?  But I didn't know Jimmy all that well at the time.  Old-timers may remember that Susan and I were still estranged at the time of her marriage to Jimmy.  Lynn and I were reconciled shortly after.  When I asked them about things, Chris(Lynn's husband) said that Jimmy only loved three things:  His dog, his truck, and Susan - in that order.  (Not too long after, I met Jim, and the vibes I got told me that Susan was at the top of his list, even if Lynn and Chris couldn't see it.) Waylon is getting older, and has already had joint surgery - bit he is a real trooper, none-the-less.

And then, as old-timers here may remember, the troubles struck.  Jim was diagnosed with bone cancer.  The Navy moved him back to SA where he would have the best doctors and be close to his family (He's from Fredericksburg.)  The drs were able to save his leg by giving him an artificial knee.  It took a while, and lot's of therapy, but his gait is now perfectly normal, and he is five years cancer-free.

The navy gave him a disability discharge a coupe of years ago, and he went to work for Norad, which involved a move to Colorado.  They seen quite happy there, and the boys are, as you can see, quite comfortable in their new home.

I'm getting old.  I had typed in the story of Couver, but lost it when I had to shut down.  You can;t see much of Couver in the pic; having a black coat, he fades into the sofa.  He was born while Susan and Jim were living in Vancouver, Canada, hence his real name.  I ought to be able to remember his breed name, but I don't.  He is a close relative of the St. Bernard, and only slightly smaller.  His breed really came out when they moved to Colorado.  Couver loves the snow.  He can't get enough of it.

Man of Steel

Total Lifetime Grosses

Foreign: $73,300,000   34.2%

Worldwide: $214,606,000
Domestic Summary

% of Total Gross: 82.5%
> View All Weekends
Widest Release: 4,207 theaters
In Release: 4 days / 0.6 weeks

Production Budget: $225 million
So, in it's opening weekend, it has recouped  all but 11,000,000 our of 223,000,000.  That's unheard of!

There are a lot of reasons bouncing about as to why.  The early opening reviews did not quite hold up.  At this point, they are about 50/50.  The people are still singing.  They are an unstoppable force these days.

I believe the promotional tour by Zack Snyder (director),David Goyer (screenwriter), Christopher Nolan (producer), and the headlining cast of Henry Cavill(Kal-el/Clark Kent/Superman), Michael Shannon(General Zod), Amy Adams(Lois Lane), and Russell Crowe(Jor-el) was a big part of the success of the film.  The cast and crew obviously got along superbly; it shows in the joint appearances and junket interviews, and would have to e a big part of the production's quality.  I won't try to lsit all of them here.  If you were to google Man of Steel and focus on news and/or videos, you would find numerous examples of what I mean.

No joy today. The British Lions lost 14 - 12 in Australia. The first Lions failure against provincial opponents in 16 years was sorrowful in the extreme. They'll need to lift their spirits this weekend when the Test series with the Wallabies gets underway in Brisbane.

Shelagh, you might find this interesting.

Quote :
Russell Crowe chased me in corridor - Lisa
18 JUNE 2013 02:30 PM

IT'S not every day Russell Crowe chases you down a hotel corridor. But that's exactly what happened to Xpose host Lisa Cannon (33).

The TV3 presenter was left flushed and bemused when Gladiator star Russell ran after her with a present for her rugby-playing boyfriend Richard Keatley.

"It was surreal," she told the Diary. "I heard him sprinting down the corridor. I turned around and he handed me a South Sydney Rabbitohs baseball cap and said 'This is for Richard'."

Lisa was over in London interviewing Russell about new Superman movie, Man Of Steel. But soon the two were shooting the breeze about rugby and the Lions tour.

"I knew he was a big rugby fan and we chatted about the Lions and I mentioned Richard played rugby for Wales – Russell was really impressed.

"He follows rugby and knew who Richard was. Russell loves Irish rugby."

And if that wasn't enough, when Lisa flew home from London she was sitting next to none other than Mary McAleese. Unfortunately, the former president of Ireland had no gifts for Lisa or Richard. Still, one out of two ain't bad.

Joy today! England are through to the final of the one-day fifty overs cricket final (Champions Trophy) on Sunday. It could be a joyful weekend ... or a sorrowful one ... or a bit of both. The Lions play the Wallabies on Saturday morning (5 a.m. in Texas). You can watch it here:

http://www.foxsports.com.au/rugby/lions-tour/match-centre/match-info?matchid=IRB20130101

synchronicity: I haven't seen Mary McAleese in person, but I did attend the bicentenary lecture at Strathclyde University in 1996 when Irish president, Mary Robinson, explained that the impending return of the Stone of Destiny to Scotland was out of order since the Scots actually nicked it from Ireland!

Bistro Chicken StewAnn's Joy Thread - Page 19 Bistrostew
Easiest cheater meal to date.  Remove chicken from packaging and follow directions to heat in microwave for about 10 minutes(note that it is already fully cooked.  You just want to heat it slightly).  Pour off broth into dutch oven.  Puncture veggie bags with fork and nuke for about 90 seconds each.  Add them to the broth in the dutch oven.  As soon as chicken is cool enough to handle, remove skin and bones and add to vegetables.  Simmer until vegetables are tender and serve in bowls.  That's it.

Will try to get a picture of the dinner after it is cooked.

Stew's done.

Ann's Joy Thread - Page 19 Bistrostewdone

Not many leftovers  It turned out nicely, and was so incredibly easy.  It would not take much more work to buy an uncooked chicken, simmer it until well done, and follow the above directions from there.  These Bisto Chickens are nicely seasoned with the basics plus a bit of paprika, which gives the broth a nice flavor.  Chris learned to make Chicken Paprikash while they were living in Germany  He says that the pre-cooked chickens are very close.
