Hello from China! Having a great time. Spent half a day at the famous 550 Market -the FAKES market. Good God. Five stories of every fake you can think of. Fake Tiffany, fake Louis Vuitton fake Rolex, fake Hollister, Ed Hardy, Louboutain ... what a hoot.

Shopper's heaven? It's one of Dante's circles of hell. The owners stand in front of each shop and grab you in. And the bargaining is not for the thin-skinned. Very loud, histrionic and aggressive. My husband and older daughter live for this stuff, so they've been getting some decent stuff (for foreigners -I'm sure the Chinese are laughing their asses off as we leave.

This is what I find particularly funny. These flags are posted every twenty feet. What's the point?

Yes, we are having fun! Great food, interesting sights. I'm not fluent in Mandarin, but my older daughter is. She's our interpreter and doing a great job. Tonight we leave Shanghai for Beijing. I want to visit a REAL Louis Vuitton store first, though. lol

Hello from Beijing! We flew here from Shanghai late last night. Here's where we're staying:

Our rooms are beautiful (as in Shanghai, we booked two, since there are five of us. My MIL is traveling with us!). Just finished a big, delicious breakfast in their executive lounge (the husband's a platinum member, so we have access). Going to check out the gym, then we're headed out to the Forbidden City. I love China!

Are you seeing any of the countryside and how the masses of people live? Is the smog in Beijing as much as I've heard? Are the sidewalks as crowded as in Hong Kong? Do you have a driver and/or how do you get from one place to the other? Taxi? Thanks again for taking the time to keep us informed. What a hotel!!

By the way - how was the flight there?

DK, I'm seeing tons of well-dressed, gorgeous, and rich looking Chinese shopping and eating in places I just look at from a distance. LOL. There are Maserati and Mercedes dealerships here. I saw a guy driving a Bentley. I can't believe it, it's blowing all my stereotypes of what China was/is. Why are we giving China foreign aid? Anyhow, we're taking cabs around, they're cheap enough. We sometimes take the subway. I'll post more when we get back.

So much for cleaning our plate because there are starving children in China...the admonishment of my youth. It never made sense to me that cleaning my plate would benefit those starving children in any way...
