| My wife to fix the meals, my hamster to keep me entertained, my doctor to fix me up if I get sick, and Len Deighton's trilogy "Game, Set and Match." |

| Just the basic survival necessities: a machete, water purification chemicals, a 30-30 Winchester with ammo, and Dr. Zhivago. Jim Woods www.ultrasw.com/jwoods |

| I agree with Jim on having Basic Survival Gear. Mine would be: 1. A Woodsman’s Pal: 2. A Cast Iron Dutch Oven: 3. Sack of Coffee Bush Seeds: If I can't have an unending supply of coffee, I don't need to survive. The Bible: I don't consider myself a religious man, but it's the one book I can read over and over |

| I think Shelagh has asked a trick question. There's a world of difference between necessities and luxuries.
The book would have to be a survival-type manual.
When I was six, my grandfather gave me my first pocketknife with the advice, "If a man's got his pants on, he oughtta have a knife in his pocket."
Before he handed me the knife, he played a game with me. "If you were on a deserted island, what ten things would you take?"
Then he reduced it by one item at a time until the only thing left was a knife. |

I still think that one necessity would be a ship. If not the Black Pearl then at least a row boat or dinghy. :pirat: |

| JoElle,
You're assuming I would want off the island. |

| How about a boat, an outboard motor, and a very large tank of gas and how about an atlas for the book so I can find my way back home. That's what I'd take to a desert island if I could only take three items and a book and once there, I'd sail my boat out of there as fast as I could. |

| Luxury items you said Shelagh, so I am assuming that someone's coming to pick me up in a couple of days...bug spray, matches and a strapping young man ought to do it. As for a book, I'll take along a copy of something I really need to be reading at that exact time...Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill will do it for this week. |

| I'd take my wife to cook all the nice food and my daughter to give me cuddles before bed time. And at night, I'd switch off my lantern and watch the stars |

| Really Pam... I wouldn't miss the clear skies of a desert island for all the tea in China. No light pollution... until a passenger liner sails by. But that could be only once in a blue moon...when my wife and child would leave me behind for a more sociable life back home |

| Let me see.
Could DJ be considered a luxury? I would want to take him with me, he's got the coffee and survival gear!! Gotta have pencils and paper as well, to jot down all the wonderful ideas that would surely come. A water filtration system would be nice, and then a dictionary/thesaurus would be a must. |
