Carol's Journal: Radiation Empty
PostSubject: Carol's Journal: Radiation   Carol's Journal: Radiation EmptyThu Dec 17, 2009 1:30 pm

I just arrived home from radiation. This was the first treatment and lasted an hour. I had to lie perfectly still for that time and my leg hurt considerably but they kept saying, "if this works, then we can do another scan.' I said prayers, thought of stories, remembered words to Christmas Carols, and made it through.

Now I am so glad to be home, will curl up on my couch with the heating pad, have a pepsi and chocolate (just a little comfort food for a job well done of laying still.) They said I couldn't even scratch my nose, and to just holler and they'd do so for me. They carefully got me off the table and into my wheel chair. The waiting room was full of people, so I realized they had taken extra time to get all the treatment in since I was managing to lie still and carefully.

The shots I was taking were not working, so after the radiation I will start on some chemo by mouth, not infusion.

Sometimes I really am in wonder what one can endure. You were all there in my thoughts.

Now to curl up with my pepsi, chocolate, heating pad and will watch Cheers. That will get me through the day!!!

Love ya all,

Carol

Thank you for your journal! A dear friend of mine (over 30 years) was in the midst of chemo treatments and called me very angry because I hadn't shared my recent job change thoughts with her immediately. She said we were no longer friends and never to call her again. I sent her a card wherein I apologized if it felt I wasn't telling her everything; but I was trying to spare her from some of my ups and downs until it would be interesting to her and to please call if I could still be her friend in any way.

Much time has passed, awkward and painful time for me. I thought sure she would call; I'm also very close to her daughter who also has not called. I am wondering if she is okay - and if perhaps her irrational anger came from her own pain.

Anyway, your journal thoughts may help me understand her situation better and hope for the day she might again renew our friendship.

Watch out for that combo, Carol, supposedly Richard Ramirez lived on it. Pepsi and chocolate. Friends blamed it for his behaviour. LOL

Get well soon! Smile

Carol,
the chocolate will help you radiate without the therapy.

I really do try to eat healthy foods, but after that hour of torture I needed something really comforting, and if it causes unusual behavior, so be it.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. With the meds wine is out of the question, so pepsi ad chocolate will have to do.

Love, Vstol

Well, either the technicians, machines, chocolate or my stretching exercises brought about a miracle, but I am feeling much better with less pain. Of course all those prayers helped also.

So today it is the same: stretching, some pain meds before leaving home for treatment, and chocolate on my return, and lots of praying.

I might have found the magic formula!!!

I am so moved by my children's friends who are giving my children and me support via facebook and my website.

I am also loving all your support.

Love ya, Carol

Will every treatment last an hour? I hope not.

Today treatment only lasted half an hour. Not bad. I am now home, had some chocolate, and enjoyed reading the Christmas cards for today.

Tomorrow I'm getting my hair cut which makes any woman feel better, and I have the weekend off from treatment.

The technicians told me I could not talk because it made my abdominal muscles move and I had to be perfectly still. Very funny!! So I kept very, very quiet, until the treatment was over, and then I could once again talk. Oh, the things asked of one!! (just being funny here. I really can be quiet when necessary.)

Love, Carol
