This was our woods tree 14 1/2 feet tall. It took me four days of climbing up and down ladders to get it decorated. Thank heavens, I don't do that anymore.

I have two leylandi cypresses still alive in the garden, out of the three I'd originally planted. I feel very tempted I should decorate them, not that I celebrate christmas or anything... but I like the spirit of it!

- I have to do my Colorado
blue spruce that's out in the garden tomorrow... That will be the only real tree on this thread, lol. Notice how everyone has fakes? The last time I did a real tree I remembered why I used fakes. Too much mess. Pine needles falling off, and you can't bend and twist real branches to display the ornaments like you can the fake ones. Sure, that real pine smell can't be beat, but I guess there are tradeoffs for everything... |

Just so you guys know I'm not totally humbugging the season this year, I'm showing you a picture of the buffet table for tomorrow night's tree trimming. I went back to the garage and pulled out the Christmas china for tomorrow and for next Sunday's dinner.

My favorite Christmas tree was the one we bought in a pot in Southern California. It grew in our garden, in the pot, all year. Then, at Christmas, we decorated it for about a week and then returned it to the yard. It was a bit root bound, but it grew some every year for several. Then, we moved to Northern California. When the moving van came, we looked wistfully at our favorite tree as all the rest was loaded. The sympathetic van driver said, "okay, let's see if we can tie it to the back of the van." Sure enough, we followed the van most of the eight hour drive, watching our Christmas tree with still a tangle or two of shiny ribbons burried in the tree from previous years. We had that same potted tree for the time we lived in Northern California, through our son's third birthday. Then, we moved to Germany. Sending a Christmas tree to Germany just didn't make sense! When we returned for a visit a year later to our home in which we had a renter, the tree was still there, a dead stick in the pot. Obviously the renters had no sentimental attachment to our potted Christmas tree.
