11/19/2009 Hi Everyone.. Since we don't have a garden section here, What are your favorite houseplants or garden plants ? I love growing tropicals and all plants. I love Citrus trees, I have growing in my living room a Calamondin Miniature Orange Tree, it flowers all year round and it's the only Citrus you can grow indoors. Plus I have a Japanese Japonica, Ming Aralia. This past early Summer I planted a Butterfly Bush, the flowers are a delicate Lilac color, awesome , they attract Hummingbirds and butterflies, oh yes and bees... Cheers.....Joe...

Some great pictures here. I'll just add a 'bristol ruby'. I totally adore this plant as it flourishes so gracefully in the chalky soils where I live:

I like herbs best. I keep pots of them on my patio. It is dark now, but tomorrow I will try to get a decent shot of them with my iphone. In the meantime, here they are in a window box in my little kitchen in Houston. They are behind Lynn. she was busy cooking chicken with yellow peppers and garlic, during the Christmas holidays about eight years ago. (Lynn is blonde again, now. Some years ago my mom made a comment that Lynn, Susan, and I all had the same hair color. Dave said it was due to a genetic propensity to choose the same hair dye.) Ann

| I love figs, Joe. My grandmother had a huge tree in her yard, and we had fresh and/or preserved figs all the time. But that picture is very big.

The ghost orchid is the flower on my book cover avatar. It only grows in the Everglades and Cuba. Normally, they bloom one flower at a time off of a green and brown root structure that blends with its host. They have no leaves, and the gosamer, paper thin petals dance in the breeze like ballerinas or dancing ghosts. My ghost orchid that bloomed on my July birthday in 2007 is a mystical flower that had as many as 12 blooms at once, high in the cypress canopy of the Corkscre Swamp Sanctuary, during its first 2007 blooming, the only ghost orchid spotted in that sanctuary at the edge of the Everglades. It's magic and mystery inspired me to write the novel, Ghost Orchid, a tale of love, lies and redemption unfolding, one puzzle piece at a time. The serenity and peace found through the Everglades' pulsing life force is described in intimate detail. I love this sanctuary, and that emotion is expressed in this fiction story that inspires other to take a trek along the boardwalk and experience the orchid in its domaine. My ghost orchid begins its first blooming in July; it's second in August and last in September. This year, it bloomed into October before its last petal turned brown and dropped to the swamp floor.
