The story makes it seem that going green was a wise business move. You can't stop it so why not make it legal as Germany and many other nations have done? Then you collect taxes and also have a safer environment. One more area in which the United States lags behind.

We've already taxed rock and roll. We might as well include sex and drugs.

If sex and drugs were taxed, it would produce a huge income.
As mentioned on another thread, the tax on cigarettes keeps them on the market. Prohibition doesn't prevent anything other than taxation.

As for prostitution, in countries where it is lawful, sex crimes are rare. I'm not endorsing any of the above, just stating the facts.

The U.S. does have legal, taxed prostitution in Nevada. I'm sure there are statistics to support that state's decision to offer and tax all vices.

Let's see. In Florida, the Indian Reservations have special laws within the state that allow them to run Casinos and sell certain things like cigarettes differently than the rest of the state.

Lotteries to pay for education have always seemed odd to me.

These bits and pieces are my way of saying the U.S. is alsready knee deep in vice and taxation of vice. It's just very inconsistent.

My distress with prostitution is the large numbers of men who travel to undeveloped countries where children are exploited. I understand those flights are big business and include "the man next door" type of individuals.

It seems to me (I may be completely wrong) that a culture that legalizes controlled substances and prostitution also puts a sort of stamp of moral approval as well. Then, the fringe has to go further to reap their profits.

I don't think countries with legalized prostitution put a stamp of approval on it, they have just faced reality. It is the world's oldest profession and it isn't going away. By legalizing it, they control it and tax it. More importantly, the women must undergo frequent medical checkups for the prevention of sexually transmitted disease. Uncontrolled street walkers are known to transmit disease. That means more problems with disease that most often winds up being paid for by the taxpayer.

Not much discussion on this topic. I was bored. Prostitution should always be legalized. It is in the U.K, but it is a very closed subject. People don't talk about it. There are lots of things that women who work in this area cannot do. The U.K could be one of the most sexually repressed countries in Europe. In comparison to Germany and Spain, prostitution here is nothing. Abe F. March, as you started this topic, have you used these services before?

So Abe, are you saying that people that use these services are all desperate and can't get women? Well, a lot of people that use the services in Amsterdam are young travellers, back packers and some even travel on their own. They probably don't have much problem getting girlfriends. Some men that use this kind of service are a little older and are married.

Just got back from Amsterdam. It is a very nice city. The people are friendly and the women are just beautiful.
