Interview with Chris Anderson; do give up the day job -- if you are a journalist, that is:

Interesting article.

I have a nephew who had big ideas about a profession, living off of others waiting for just the right job. Then life circumstances happened that forced him to give up his dream. But he is providing for his children, able to see his children because of the job in spite of a separation from their mother, and is getting promotions. He is feeling self-fulfilled even in a job he never expected would give him any more satisfaction than a paycheck.

Times are changing, but staying the same. We need to value time spent, realize the importance of a paycheck while also respecting creativity and self-fulfillment that comes in a variety of ways.

Carol

Yes, Carol, the beginning of the twenty-first century is just as different to the end of the twentieth century as the beginning of the twentieth century was to the end of the nineteenth. Back then, cars replaced horses and changed the way people travelled. Now, technology has replaced mechanical machinery and changed the way people gather information. We are still using cars so, I guess, we will still be using electronics for exchanging information at the end of this century. Working horses are also still around and hard copies of information will still be around until the twenty-second century, but not to the extent we see today. Good news (excuse the pun!) for tree lovers!

There are too many reasons why that guy is wrong to even list them all.
