http://www.amazon.com/How-Became-Godman-Lana-Ho-Shing/dp/1413753612/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1242001942&sr=8-5

This link will take you to Lana M. Ho Shing's PA book of 2005 that just received an award. She does not post here but is a contributor to The World Outside The Window, the anthology that includes stories by Don Harpe and me, among other talented authors.

This award is inspirational in that it illustrates that a writer, writes. If we are lucky to be picked up by a major publisher, grand. If we are not, we do the best we can to be heard. The quality of our writing may still be noticed, even if the publisher has as many detractors as PA.

Like many PA authors, I have had my self-talk sessions. I congratulate Lana for her writing recognition in several venues and expect her to have a great writing career.

One advantage of a POD book is its availability after the hoopla has cooled. We can still promote our backlist and seek recognition. Thanks to Lana and other award winners like her, we can rest assured that our publisher is only one piece of our writing career. Most important is the quality of our writing and how it reaches its audience.

Eric Hoffer award for books. If you follow the link, Lana's Amazon blog post discusses the award.

Since we began the World Outside the Window project, Lana has become a good friend of mine. I have come to know her writing, and any award that she wins is well deserved.

Dear DK,
Your beautiful spirit shows here on this post. Publishers are nothing but the insturment. Writers have the talent to put words into stories that incite imagination.

Publishers just print the words and bind them into jackets.

Why they have such power is beyond me. Why writers do not join together and put out their own works is something to consider. So far, people have settled into the self published stigma. We need some imagination.

I like Shelagh's success at serializing Mr. Planemakers stories. She worked so hard for that.

I would love for Wooffer to be in a serial form in a paper like The Weekly Reader, which used to be for young children. The trouble is that all of those avenues are sewed so tightly that no person can breach the seams. It would have to be private schools, private libraries. Even those are locked by political busy bodies.

If anyone can do it, you Diane can. You have the will and the soul for it.

Remember me.

Love,
Betty

Thanks for the response to my recognition for Lana. When we first started posting Amazon Shorts, she was one of the few who posted a review for my shorts, specifically, What Happens in Jamaica Stays in Jamaica. She recognized the location of the story and the fear expressed, and said so. It was nice validation. It seems a century ago...........

Thanks Betty! The first episode went out today followed by my interview. My mother phoned and said that I did okay (very Lancashire, very low key!). My husband phoned from work and said the same!

Shelagh,

cheers PublishAmerica 2005 novel receiving award - inspiration 931984

Will the second be easier?

I have those British ancestors and know the low-key part. It's taken decades for me to get more exuberant.

It's uplifting to see other POD authors doing so well. It is surely due to their own hard work and writing skill, of course. I know that is the case where Shelagh is concerned. And the fact that your Mom and hubby both phoned says they are proud of you Shelagh. And so is most everyone here!

If anybody deserves support, you do, Shelagh.

It's the rest of us that don't always deserve yours.

Thanks Alice, Ann and Dick!

This evening I received a phone call from the radio station to say that the interview had been repeated at 8.20pm! They are delighted with the way today went and everyone is looking forward to the coming episodes! The serialisation will run for several weeks, possibly as many as ten.
