| Thanks Ann for the trailer. I want to see it - the women alone make it appealing. |

| Conquering Afghanistan
The Mongols tried, the British tried, the Russians tried and they all failed. The only one that had some success was Alexander the Great. He marched through it and then got the hell out.
Wining in Afghanistan is not going to happen. Battles can be won, but the land will not be conquered. How many more billions of dollars will be wasted, how many more soldiers lives sacrificed, how many more civilian casualties before we end the fight? Spending money on education and creating jobs will be money better spent. By focusing our efforts on the root problems in the Middle East we will at least be on the right track. |

| Exactly Abe. Many an empire has gone aground on Afghanistan.
And you're right. For a tiny fraction of the war's expense we could hook the whole country up with color TV's with cable and playstations and we'd have 'em. |

| I pulled up this thread because today is the 10 year anniversary of our engagement in Afghanistan. What have we gained? What have we learned? What have we lost? What's next? |

What have we gained? What have we learned? What have we lost? What's next? All I know is that my son (and only child) is over there right now. For the second time. |

| Thank you He's got three little boys and his wife is expecting #4. A few of the other young men (his friends) in his unit are also married with young wives, small children, and children on the way. I hope all these young fathers, husbands, and sons come home safely. |

| When will we get out of Afghanistan? How much more borrowed money will be spent and how many more lives will be lost in an exercise of futility? It's time to Stop Killing! |

| I agree that we should fear for the young men and women in that country and their loved ones still here. I wish there was some way to get out with honor to make the lost lives, and injuries and damaged families for some purpose. I don't believe we can accomplish anything in these present circumstances.
I also believe that four tours of combat duty for an ordinary person is too much. Yes, some men and women can do that and survive. I think the volunteer military was too small for their mission throughout the world - and they served valiantly, they and their families. It may be time to look at a universal service that includes more of a cross section of the country so wars are felt by all, not a limited few, a show on television. |

| 3/12/2012 DK... My true feelings , my honest feelings ? Here they are: Since I was 18 Yrs. old I always thought to myself why the hell should I fight in another country, we have no business there. We should only fight when our country is attacked , the right to bare arms to protect our country and family. As far as other countries go, they have to fight their own fights. Many of our young men and women being so innocent at 18 or older are innocent virgins, they don't know the horrors they'll come up against.. Almost forgot, my brothers and I were very lucky not to be drafted for the Vietnam war, another stupidity ! Cheers..Joe.. |
