Where do ya all think the best place to live is?

It sure ain't Washington state because it rains too much.

It ain't California--too many earthquakes.

It ain't Illinois--governor is too corrupt

It ain't Texas---W is from there. Rattlesnakes, armadillos and scorpions thrive there also.

It ain't the South--too hot and snake infested.

Where is it?

Well, Wisconsin is almost perfect, except for November, December, January, February, March, and sometimes April. Well, half the year isn't bad.

(I had to edit this because I forgot January. This cold weather makes one forget things like that.)

I do love Massachusetts! But there's 6 inches of snow on the ground since last night and it's still falling. The temp is 19 degrees.

Maybe I better rethink my vote!

You have confined this to the United States, have you?
Well, I'm expanding it. The southern, French-speaking area of Belgium or Normandy around Bayeux or Carentan are both great. Wonderful people who take time to enjoy each day, seldom too hot, seldom too cold, no unpleasant creatures.
If you insist on keeping it in the U.S., upstate New York or New England can't be topped. If you have the money, New York City is by far the most interesting place and one that will inspire you to accomplish the most that you possibly can unless you are a complete drudge.

I live in the first place in the UK to be designated an area of outstanding beauty. Where do you go from there? Three Cliffs Bay:

Shelagh,

How gorgeous--how far from St Ives and Land's End?

Dick,

Great idea--expand it.

Normandy is beautiful, Chamonix breathtaking.

I will add Bora Bora

Helen, I love your state.

Carol,

We almost lived in Wisconsin, Dave accepted a job and we rented a house.

He looked at me shuffling along through a mall and the realization hit him that I would never live through it. He declined the job, we unrented the house and I am still alive.

I don't know if it's perfect or not, but I am Arkansas bound! or at least tothe S.E. region. Hot places have a thing called Air Conditioning! Since I don't speak another language, going abroad is out of the question, but Dick's suggestion sounds heavenly.

Zada,

Please do not go--Arkansas is the worst place on the face of the earth.

The people are inbred--Clinton is from there--the medicine is 20 years behind times. Rattlesnakes, copperheads, chiggers.

People who resemble apes--inconceivable!

My in-laws insisted on going there They regretted the move terrrbly. The land is cheap because noone wants to live there.

It is a great place to be FROM.

I implore you do not go there to reside--visit there--escaping is easier that way.

Where are your children? Have mercy on them

Alice, I have many cousins scattered across the S. In fact, several in Texas. I have visited or lived in many of the southern states and I am impressed by both the scenery and the people.

Besides, Clinton is not in office anymore, so there is no reason to worry about him. I am not too impressed with Gregoire, either!

Zada,

Find a doctor before you go--if you are happy go ahead. I am not impressed with Gregoire either.

I am mourning the loss of you already---you are so young, so vibrant--Texas has wonderful medicine--Baylor Universty--it is right next door to Arkansas.

I have lived in Oregon - I loved it. I like the rain (but not as much as they've been getting lately).

I have lived in California - I loved it. But didn't have a really bad earthquake during the time I lived there. Just a few gentle shakes.

I have lived in south and central Texas - HATED the heat and humidity. Loved the people and the food. Had a couple of hurricanes, but not the really bad ones. The few tornadoes were nice enough to avoid my house.

I live in Nevada and LOVE it. - No big earthquakes so far. One year it did snow 3 feet at our house ... but isn't the norm. Not too hot. Not too cold. Almost zilch humidity. No fleas.

We've been to 47 of the 48 states ... and my husband likes Albuquerque NM and Las Cruces, NM. I like Flagstaff AZ, the Columbia River Gorge, North Bend, WA, and Kalispell MT ... among a few other places.

Outside of the USA, we both love visiting Guadalajara, Mexico. The weather there is almost perfect and the people are super hospitable. They always want to feed you and give you their house (mi casa es su casa).

And we both LOVED Ireland!! The people there were sooo friendly and the island is just gorgeous.

The world is made up of a balance of good and bad. There isn't a perfect place. Not even in the fairy world.

Alice, I have a cousin in Houston--a Baylor girl, through and through. I could always go visit (she is always asking me to return) if I needed to! I have another cousin in S.A. too, and it would be grand to visit there as well, not to mention Amarillo (where my father was from).

Dick's suggestion sounds superb, but I am not ready to learn a new language!

And all the kidnappings and drug news I hear about from Mexico scare me to death! (Another new language to learn!)

Jo Elle,

Why do you like North Bend, WA?

I love it--I grew up one mile out of the city limits on a 140 acre spread going up Rattlesnake mountain.

Hubby and I used to climb Mt Si every month.

Scotts dairy freeze has the bestsoft ice-ceam in the entire universe. I hope you have had some.

I would love to see you before--hope you wait until the water calms down here.

I promise I will speak no more ill of Arkansas--if you like it,
it must be a good place.

I went to Arkansas with the Red Cross for 11 days in February after the tornadoes there. I was in a town named Clinton, but having nothing to do with the Clinton family, not the one we know best anyway. I liked the people. The town had been devastated and the people were quite resilient, but the Red Cross supervisors did say when we were out and about in the hills to be extra cautious if there was a shotgun by someone's front door. I never saw any, however. There was one business completely leveled with sixteen people inside. One was killed and the factory was completely leveled, but they were planning to begin rebuilding soon.

I grew up in the Chicago area and then lived there for ten years as an adult, until we moved to small town Wisconsin. I'd never want to go back to the city, but some people love the city. I think it depends on your own interests.

Abe, you live in a beautiful place.
