America's new President

Although the inauguration is over, the fall-out is not over. 

The reaction to the Trump Presidency is being felt worldwide.  Protests have turned into a swing to the far-right with pseudo patriotic slogans as uttered by Trump.  In Europe it has prompted “anti immigration” speeches - taking care of our own people first, as uttered by Trump.  In my view the “me first” attitude is an example of greed without consideration for one’s fellow-man.  International cooperation is at risk.  We live on the same planet and need one another to keep it safe.  Instead of bringing people together, the political rhetoric is tearing people apart.  In the past Europe has followed the lead taken by America.  Is this the kind of leadership the world should follow?  Turning a united Europe into fractioned entities has a history of conflict.  International cooperation is needed for security.  Short-term thinking may be politically expedient, but flawed.

Our Prime Minister, Theresa May, will be the first foreign leader to meet the new president. We are hopeful that a trade deal will be struck, part of the new "Global Britain". Trade deals with Australia and New Zealand are in the pipeline. We are widening, not narrowing our horizons.
