| -not. The article's title is somewhat tongue-in-cheek. http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/11/opinion/sunday/dowd-romney-is-president.html?src=me&ref=general - Quote :
Romney is President by Maureen Dowd (New York Times) Mitt Romney is the president of white male America. -------------------------------- In its delusional death spiral, the white male patriarchy was so hard core, so redolent of country clubs and Cadillacs, it made little effort not to alienate women. The election had the largest gender gap in the history of the Gallup poll, with Obama winning the vote of single women by 36 percentage points.
As W.’s former aide Karen Hughes put it in Politico on Friday, “If another Republican man says anything about rape other than it is a horrific, violent crime, I want to personally cut out his tongue.” ---------------------------------- But the truth is, Romney was an unpalatable candidate. And shocking as it may seem, his strategists weren’t blowing smoke when they said they were going to win; they were just clueless.
Until now, Republicans and Fox News have excelled at conjuring alternate realities. But this time, they made the mistake of believing their fake world actually existed. As Fox’s Megyn Kelly said to Karl Rove on election night, when he argued against calling Ohio for Obama: “Is this just math that you do as a Republican to make yourself feel better?”
Romney and Tea Party loonies dismissed half the country as chattel and moochers who did not belong in their “traditional” America. But the more they insulted the president with birther cracks, the more they tried to force chastity belts on women, and the more they made Hispanics, blacks and gays feel like the help, the more these groups burned to prove that, knitted together, they could give the dead-enders of white male domination the boot.
The election about the economy also sounded the death knell for the Republican culture wars.
Romney was still running in an illusory country where husbands told wives how to vote, and the wives who worked had better get home in time to cook dinner. But in the real country, many wives were urging husbands not to vote for a Brylcreemed boss out of a ’50s boardroom whose party was helping to revive a 50-year-old debate over contraception.
Just like the Bushes before him, Romney tried to portray himself as more American than his Democratic opponent. But America’s gallimaufry wasn’t knuckling under to the gentry this time. |

| There are many white men who are enlightened and fought for the rights of women and equal rights and opportunities for all citizens of this country, not just the privileged few. I am grateful that they got out there and voted.
I also hoped that when women went into the privacy of the voting booth, they would vote for the rights the women before them fought so hard to attain - and vote for President Obama.
The concern still is the Republican governors and those who still haven't recovered from the fantasy world created by Rush Limbaugh and his kind - that are now less popular with the rational republicans themselves. He still has a large following of the vulnerable who even now have petitions in a bunch of states to separate from the United States because President Obama was elected.
If they are so certain for their cause, another election is on the horizon and the beauty of a representative democracy is the change to vote their voice.
This time, however, our voice was heard. Even though republicans still talk like they are going to implement the Romney/Ryan plan, Romney/Ryan were soundly beaten in both the popular and the electoral vote and the crazies running for Senate seats were not elected either.
I am proud of the United States of America and the diversity of its people. We will continue strong in the world though our strength may come from allies and the growth of more democracies and those countries whose economic improvement makes them less hungry for war. |

| Loved reading the posts. Such sweet sorrow. The women may now continue to cook the Republican geese. |

| Enlightened white men, enlightened Christians, Muslims, Jews, Mormons are outnumbering the old paradigm hold-outs more and more everyday.
Of course there will be those who cling - there are some Texans among that group who would secede - a fantasy we need not worry about overly much.
Let's keep moving forward. |

| This is for you, Ann. Didn't know where to post it:

Jules, Nancy, and Vivian Thank you for your notes, and, Vivian, 4,000 a month is great. I didn't get to my numbers overnight. I'm betting there are others who do better than me, too, because they blog brilliantly and often, writers such as Jessica Barksdale Inclan, Tim Wise, and Dale Estey. I don't write to be in a race with anyone, and I'm betting they don't, either.
I was inspired long ago by mythologist Joseph Campbell who said "Follow your bliss." Do what you love, and the rest will follow. |

| Isn't going to happen, Alice. Texas only got more petitions because it has more people than the other states involved. Like I said, it's all somebody's fantasy.
Besides, SA cast more votes for Obama than Romney, elected Democratic congressmen, and our Democratic Mayor was the keynote speaker at the convention.
The Hill Country is the heart of the state. I like it here. |

| Ann,
You are wise. Texas is changing and will soon be blue too.
I just wish you lived closer. |
