Book Cover WHich Do You Prefer ?

                   In order to keep ahead I changed my book cover on Santa Fe Book,
                   here's the first one...2nd to follow. Which one do you like ?

                        The problem with the first one is no one downloaded the book
                   on Smashwords, so I started to think maybe people thought it was
                   all about jewelry ( I do have that photo in the book,) so I used a 
                   painting I painted years ago and donated to " The Buckaroo Ball,"
                   they auction art and objects to raise money for chairties in town.
                   On the ladies boot I added Mother of Pearl ( Glued it on the captoe)
                   on the man's I glued on the captoe with turquoise. I had it on the
                   Smashwords sight for almost a year, time for a change.

I like the first one.  Perhaps putting the dancing couple from the second photo on the first one may help.  Just a thought.

Why don't you put one of the photos from the book on the cover?

                             I did it's the first cover, so I changed it to the painting I did
                  several years ago....Here's another one I was using on another site..
                  It's the Plaza Park downtown which is famous with tourists, I can't use it
                  because it's wide..

Joe, had you thought of using the center portion of this one?  It has great balance and color - grabs your attention.

Maybe use the same borders as the first one so you could get more if the whole picture.

                           I have to see how I can crop it properly and put it into the
                 book cover Shelagh created...???????? It has to be 1600 Tall and
                 1400 Wide for Smashwords..

                                Smashwords won't accept it ! it has to be 1800 Tall
                  and 1400 Wide or 2400 Tall and 1600 Wide. My program can't
                  do it because it gets out of wack...

The one on the right is stunning. Do you have model releases for the people in it, though?

I like them all but absolutely LOVE the one Shelagh posted and referred to as the "second one" with the Native American man in full regalia. Stunning!

                                That's the one I choose, it's from last years Indian Market, you have to
                           pay to photograph the Native Americans in their costumes..Here's the cover.

I read LCs post after posting my own (must have posted nearly simultaneously). Don't overlook her point: Do you have a release from the model? You said you paid for the right to take the photograph, but what rights were you granted for the payment? This is a commercial, for-profit use of the photograph, so make sure you have permission to use it.

Presumably, if Joe has the right to include the photo inside the book, he can use it on the cover.
