| PA is now having a book cover contest. I like my cover, but balk at paying $39.00 plus shipping to enter. Anyone falling for this? I wonder what the winner will get. |

| I don't think they're going broke. I think they're raking it in. They have so many authors now, they only need to convince a small percentage of newbies.

| There are plenty of free book cover contests. Some have prizes; some have sort of prestigious award recognition. |

| I have entered several to no avail. I also paid to enter contests to no avail (not cover). Sales and reviews still indicate Ghost Orchid has a beautiful cover and an even better story...regardless of not winning any contests! |

| Thank you for your support. I've always felt it was lovely; and the publisher captured elements of the story so that the cover is a story in itself, from the beautiful woman who might be one of two characters, the Celtic Cross, the ghost orchid and the night sky, when "the day gives birth to night." I'm not sure every publisher puts that much into a cover...I can't help but believe the cover artist read Ghost Orchid. My idea for the cover was a ghost orchid that filled the cover and a misty view of a beautiful woman superimposed. |

| They design their covers themselves, then run a contest to pick which one is the best? LOL, I love them. |

| And charge the author to participate....their creativity to bring in the newbie money is to be admired, at least three emails a day with new schemes. They must pay a bonus to those with the idea that brings in the most orders. Sort of like a call center.
My feelings about their sales techniques does not change my opinion that for a person who wants a few copies of their book for free, the quality of the finished product (if camera ready to start) is nice. I'd pick Lulu or Createspace today, though, just to not face the baggage and the incessant emails.
I don't cut off the emails - I'm still waiting for another hard copy deal :-) |

| I had to re-read that offer twice. I couldn't believe what I was reading: "To nominate your book (we keep the bar very low: $39)." Just had to laugh! They certainly are creative! And then to say you have to choose a shipping option . . . sheesh! Too much! |

| Well, does the winner get a prize at least, or what's the benefit of winning? |

| The latest con is with foreign translation rights and that should be done before the Expo (x number of books to purchase). To offer our book at the next Expo, we first need to have it as an ebook. (Don't remember the cost for that) And for them to show our book at the Expo, it naturally requires a certain number of buys.
What ticks me off even more is that the emails they are the "noreply" kind. I suppose they know they would get replies that they wouldn't want to read. I now just delete them all. Wish they would be notified when they get a delete. |

| The winner gets the joy of giving PA $39.00 plus $3.99 shipping. Every PA author gets to vote on these covers it would seem --they said 50,000 authors I only see 42,205 for PublishAmerica and 279 for Publish America and our friend Brenda Hill is the top seller for Publish America! Does anyone know the difference between these two companies?

I bet this originated as a way to recognize their in-house staff (the cover artists) for good work; a morale booster thing. Then they figured out a way to subsidize it. The artist of the winning cover will probably get a prize, maybe a portion of the entrance fees. |

Abe..
If you want to stop e mails from PA especially if it comes in SPAM, go to spam settings and use..
" Permanently delete blocked mail "
That should stop them..
Cheers..Joe |

Does anyone know the difference between these two companies? Alice, to my knowledge, Brenda has used other publishers since her beginning with PA. If she is a top seller at PA, I would think it is based on merit. She is not a person who would buy her way to that type of phony-fame. I've read two of her post PA books and consider her a good author. |

Cheers..Joe Joe, I considered using the Spam thing, however I didn't want to miss a legitimate email informing me that my contract is about to expire. Otherwise, I would have used that button long ago. But I do thank you for your suggestion. It may still come to that if I get too perturbed. |

| Abe, I didn't think Brenda would buy her book as I know she does not like it. I am trying to figure out why there are two PA's --one with a space between-- Publish America as opposed to PublishAmerica. |

| I believe the bestselling PA author is the guy who sold 5,000 copies, most of which he purchased himself. I forget his name. |
