Daylight Saving Time (DST) Empty
PostSubject: Daylight Saving Time (DST)   Daylight Saving Time (DST) EmptyTue Mar 12, 2013 1:33 am

Does DST make sense? The LA Times report that DST is a health issue. Statistics record more heart attacks and more auto accidents on the first DST day. The cause is said to be a disruption of normal sleep rhythms.
Wouldn’t it be better to remain on DST or Standard time rather than make the change? Although the US moved their clocks forward, in Europe it hasn’t done so as yet. International travel requires adjustment and caution so as not to miss scheduled flights.

In the Spring, we spring forward one hour and in the Fall, we fall back one hour.
The modern idea of daylight saving was first proposed in 1895 by George Vernon Hudson and it was first implemented during the First World War.

“Starting on 30 April 1916, Germany and its World War I allies were the first to use DST (German: Sommerzeit) as a way to conserve coal during wartime. Britain, most of its allies, and many European neutrals soon followed suit. Russia and a few other countries waited until the next year and the United States adopted it in 1918.”

I think the daylight saving time currently in effect in the U.S. should be standard and not changed. It is an archaic concept and very disruptive, especially in a global world. If we adopt one standard, it should be global.

When I was boy, many old folks wouldn't recognize DST. Ask them the time, they'd say something like, "Seven-thirty, God's time."

I don't know, Al. Sounds a bit like the older lady at my childhood church who would say, "If the King James' Bible was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me."

Ann, that sounds much like the lady in Florida who, when asked why she was against teaching Spanish in school replied: "If English was good enough for Jesus, it should be good enough for everyone."
