The NY Times profiled an Englishman, recently turned 94, who has been living in Pakistan since that country's bloody, violent and murderous beginning.
When I read this I got a glimmer of Paul Scott's post-Raj Quartet novel, _Staying On_. A funny and poignant tale of an English civil service couple who remain in India after independence.
I haven't read Scott's novel since the late Seventies. I remember it as being very good.
Does anyone else remember it?
