The NY Times profiled an Englishman, recently turned 94, who has been living in Pakistan since that country's bloody, violent and murderous beginning.

When I read this I got a glimmer of Paul Scott's post-Raj Quartet novel, _Staying On_. A funny and poignant tale of an English civil service couple who remain in India after independence.

I haven't read Scott's novel since the late Seventies. I remember it as being very good.

Does anyone else remember it?

By the way, I am not allowed to post links yet. So I cannot lead you to the article. But you will find it in this Saturday's Asia/Pacific section.
