Domaine Disaster Empty
PostSubject: Domaine Disaster   Domaine Disaster EmptySun Apr 15, 2012 1:11 pm

Alass! My domain, dkchristi.com; .org and .net is down. The party to whom much money was paid in advance for purchasing and hosting my domain, has technical difficulties. Thus, dkchristi.com yields bluehost and a a page full of further searches.

The timing is particularly unwelcome since I had five articles in the local print and international online swspotlight.com - and the articles are being read quite expansively with positive feedback that should lead a reader to dkchristi.com and then, to buy my books, right? All part of "branding."

Well, arriving at my web site is possible through a google search as their link is linked to my background site, www.dkchristi.webs.com that previously linked from www.dkchristi.com .

Bottom line: my hits to my web site are pitiful in number compared to before the glitch. I only have the www.dkchristi.webs.com site.

Any suggestions? I can't drop my host because it's a paid in advance - like 99 years - deal.

I ran a check here and it says that the status of your domain is okay:

https://www.bluehost.com/cgi/serverstatus/

When I checked to see if it was just a problem for me:

http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/dkchristi.com

It says that dkchristi.com is up but the link doesn't link to the site.

Check your webs site to see that the domain name is pointing to it.

Did perhaps the domain name come up for renewal and you missed it?

Back when my web site was wooffer.com, I changed credit cards and my computer crashed as well. I had paid for two years, in the beginning. When GoDaddy could not charge my credit card for renewal, they sold my Domain Name to a London airport. I am sure they tried to notify me via email but with no computer, it was a lost cause. Now, if anyone types in wooffer.com, they get the airport ticketing/marketing site in London.

I had to start over.
woofferbook.com
That is the new me.

I have learned a lot since my first computer. Computers have come a longer way forward than I.

I hope you get it resoved, DK. A lot of work goes into making a web site and to have it evaporate is hard to take.

I wonder if the school geeks may have some help for you.

Love,
Betty

I did pretty much the same thing as Betty. I was with one web site provider and switched and didn't get the notice when the domain name edonharpe was due to be renewed. So I lost it. Every time I clicked on it, I was redirected to a site such as the one DK is going to. That's why I asked about the renewal. Oh, it's also why my website is now www.donharpe.com.

BTW, if your site is even reasonably successful in generating hits, if you allow the name to become public property again someone will buy it. I could have bought mine back but I wouldn't pay the price they wanted for it. I just went with a new name, and it's worked out fine.

Thanks for the suggestions - I hope it's not lost. Fortunately, my www.dkchristi.webs.com was the actual web site that was linked to www.dkchristi.com because my new web site for the domaine was under construction.

If your new website for the domain is under construction and you have specified that the domain is to be used for that website, then that's where the domain points. I suggest that you should check out the domain and check out which website it is attached to -- the old or the new.

The comments here prompted me to follow-up on my domaine name. It required renewal and I had put it off. Now I've renewed it. Thanks to all.

Mine is good for nine more years - though I had been told it was for 99 years....

I've been using www.dkchristi.webs.com since my link is broken and I can't seem to get it reconnected.

I, too, and thankful for all the help we get here.

DK

There is a huge difference in 9 versus 99 years,. I hope you have that in writing.
