| When I was putting together a book of 200 authors one sent me the cd`s for her book, I was impressed with the sleeve and the presentation that was on each cd cover.
It would seem to me hospitals and elderly folks homes might be interested in audio books so new authors might find this a good way of marketting.
My other book is a short 74 page theory of everything science book so sometime I am going to look into producing an audio version.
Because I am a songwriter I did spend the day at the studio with a band to record one of my tracks and anyone can hire a studio to do their book reading which means with the mixing the result will be a first class master cd they can reproduce.

| This is an excellent idea, and one that is being explored by a few. I am waiting to see how it goes, I guess. In a case like that, one would not need a publisher, would they? |

| I can't see me sitting for days chattering into a microphone somehow. Hmmm, maybe someone could do it for me! We'll see further down the road. |

| Hi both,
Usually the publisher will be happy to give permission for an audio book without asking for any payment as it does promote the hard copy.
That is the beauty of going into a studio, someone else can read the book and the mixer can cut any mistakes so you do not see the join.

| I'm not sure how to work this forum, but I'll post this and see what happens. The audio version of my fiction novel RAINY DAY PEOPLE was released this past fall. It was professionally done by my publisher's audio division. If anyone has any questions about a 'novel' being turned to audio with a professionally engineered crew and a professional reader. I'll try to answer them for you. |

| Hello, everyone. Shelagh Watkins invited me to visit, and I thank her.
Taylors Ridge Audiobooks, my own service--now three years in production, provides a relatively inexpensive option for authors who would like an audiobook of their work but are self-published, vanity published, or are signed with a publisher who does not provide the service. I even offer payments spread out over time.
Many of the fees for such are very expensive on the internet, so please feel free to browse them. They offer bells and whistles that may entice you if you have thousands of dollars to spend, but if you want a basic, professional production, narration and engineering, I invite you to visit my AuthorsDen website:
I even record short works as well as books.
Thank you. Danny Lee Ingram |

| I really like the option of an audio book, especially if I am driving a long way (I don't like to read and drive at the same time, although I have seen people try to do this!!). It took me ages just to record the excerpt of my novel to post on my website, and that was with the assistance of a sound tech so I would strongly recommend having someone that can join things together and edit mistakes as John has suggested. |

| Hi,
Well seems like there is a fair bit of interest in audio books so hopefully the market for these is slightly easier to get into than bookstores.
I am newish so its nice to see everyone posting on here.

| I must admit I have thought about buying a recording kit for PC to enable me to do podcasts. I understand its relatively straightforward and the same equipment can be used to record audio cd's.
I've looked on line an these kits seem relatively inexpensive - under a ÂŁ100 or $200. |

| Jenny I did see a couple of sites that will let you download their gear for a trial and what have you. I think that you just need to invest in a good microphone, although have not tried them yet. I have listened to a couple of broadcasts online from http://www.blogtalkradio.com, which I think is free to register but I have yet to see what it all costs (if you want to participate by phone it is a call to New York, but you can use internet, Skype and so on). Not sure if you can record an entire book, but it could be worth checking since you can also add music to your casting. |

| Hi Jack, It is nice to see you again. I am glad that you are doing well. Danny Lee Ingram recorded the audio of Wooffer and I must say it it really wonderfully done and his voice is beautiful and so is his price and arrangements. He is honest, fair, and very talented, not just as an audio producer, but as an author himself. His book, Pennies On The Track is so good it will be a classic one day. Love, Betty |

Who did the "audio"? Professional actor? Self? Talking mice? |

| Haven't done an audio book lin...I did record a clip for my website, which was a hoot but took me about 2 hours just to do that little blurb. I think it took so long because I had booked time in a voice actor's sound booth and he actually coached me through. The end result was MUCH better than my first attempts. |

| Well bless your heart Betty! I see the email address now...the name on the order threw me.
My partner in the States mailed it today. Let me know if you don't get it this week. Hope you enjoy it.
Like it says in the text, "Cabo Bob's customers look forward to getting arrested for using these words: it builds character." |

| Hello i am new to this forum 3rdhawkins 3rd Hawkins. People have asked me several times why the name 3rd. I look at the world and life a little different than most. I use my 3rd eye sort to speak. In life we visualize things with our peripheral vision and don’t stop to analyze or think about what we actually see. I am a visionary artist. I hope that people will understand that what I am trying to do is set a new standard in blending the music world and the artistic boundaries of urban literature. Hopefully you will agree upon the finished product. |
