Glorious Morning! Empty
PostSubject: Glorious Morning!   Glorious Morning! EmptyFri Sep 16, 2011 6:15 am

I woke up to the sound of rain upon my roof. Rain. I dressed quickly and walked outside and just stood in it, grinning and laughing. It is still coming down, two hours later, and thunder is rumbling. I never knew thunder could sound so beautiful.

It remains in the forecast all week.

Good-by, wildfires.

When I lived on the sailboat rain was a crazy maker. First, we had to rush around closing hatches and pulling wind scoops. It washed the boat. We put up the bimini rain catcher and filled over 200 gallons into our tanks. We put on our swimsuits, grabbed the real hair shampoo and had group bathing on deck. We washed the dog.

It was instinctive to shut the hatches and ports and pull the wind scoops. I was on land for a major thunderstorm. In my sleep, I stood up from the bed to shut the nonexistent hatches...

My understanding is that the amount of rain needed in the West far exceeds the projections for rain.

Even Florida, surrounded by water and having afternoon rain all summer, has a water shortage... It's watering all those gulf courses.

It won't do enough to help the bits of hay lying on my brick of a yard that was grassy once, or save the farmer's crops, but it should slow down the wildfires.

Quote :
By September 12, they had burned 3,694,985 acres and about 2,630 homes (1,939 of which burned in one weekend).
But if you want to keep pouring water to douse the fires of my enthusiasm and hope, in this instance, go ahead. Water and doused fires are a good thing around here.

Ann

I am so glad you have rain.

We are supposed to have a cold, dark winter after a cool summer.

Our winters have been getting colder, too, Alice, along with hotter, drier summers. After this last one, a cold winter sounds inviting.

I think some people are finally beginning to believe that our atmosphere has changed by pollution. Extreme weather is becoming the norm. Without action, it will get worse. How much worse will it require before necessary action is taken?

It is no longer scientist fighting against politicians, but people trying to survive.

We too had rain today. Had to stop harvesting grapes due to rain. When I think of Ann and Texas, I'm hoping that they get some needed rain. If one had to choose, I think too much rain is better than no rain.

I hear that the Artic has 40% less ice than it did just a few years ago. Something is drastically wrong.

Ann, me too, like the sound of light rain walling, soft rain, not cold rain leaves and grass still green , littering with their wet skin, and the luminescence and glow before the finally wall - so soft with light mist on river.

The effect we have on the landscape is insignificant compared to millions of years of evolution. Look what acidic rain can do:

I always think of rain as a miracle.

I know the science behind rain, but to me it is always a little miracle of nature.

It rains down somewhere...the sun shines... evaporates the rain into clouds ...the winds blow...it rains down on a new place....the sun shines....the wind blows...

Put in that simple mix the mountains, the oceans, the trees, the desert, and make a circle of it all.

How perfect is this earth!

Love,

Betty
