Borders in Redmond, WA is gone and the corner looked quite lonesome.

Joe,
The most agreeable bit in in the article was this:

"At the risk of sounding like my great aunt, I love books. I love holding books. I love thumbing through books. I love marking up pages, I love perusing bookshelves, I love feeling the paper between my fingers."

I agree Smile

And it isn't just about books. It's about businesses in general; it's about relationships; it's about society, culture, and ordinary daily living. Everything is shifting and changing around us. It is hard to find anything anymore that is comfortable and that we can hold on to as being real and permanent.

Changing paradigms.

Tell me about it Ann. Too much change!

I've started stocking up on second hand paperbacks before they disappear completely and make way for this new "e" generation of nooks and kindles.
Finding the space to store them is another matter entirely...

If all else fails, you can order from Amazon.

Interior decorators still use them for design. I used to buy beautiful hard cover books from the dollar store to decorate the condo's that I rented or sold....

In fact, I have some "decorator" hard cover books decorating a couple tables now...

Design people suggest picking up the "right style" books at antique shops. I say, hang onto the ones you love and decorate with them.

The children born today will not have the attachments that we have. They will consider our desire to touch the pages silly nostalgia without substance.
