From an Open-minded Gun Owner

My hubby sent me this link. It is thought provoking. Another way to think about things.

One thing I noticed in the article was that there are a lot more people who own guns than swimming pools.

I cannot help but think that the discrepancy might be part of the problem.

Violence is the power tool of those who can't afford backyard swimming pools to cool off in. Sometimes people who are privileged don't develop compassion for those who haven't had their opportunities.

It's a pointless comparison and a vague statistic that won't hold up when all the parameters are included. For example, you can lock away and hide a gun. You can't do that with a swimming pool. You can decline to have ammunition nearby. Not many homes have dry swimming pools. And on and on.

Well, duh.

It's like this one. 40% of traffic fatalities can be attributed to drunk drivers. Which means that 60% are caused by sober people.

Now my take on the article. Drop sided cribs are illegal, we must throw ours out. It seems like everything is regulated or controlled--you must buckle up, do not remove the tag from your pillow, etc

Why not control guns?

Cribs, pillows and seat belts don't have their own amendment.

Can you imagine America without guns?
If there are no guns available, there can be no shooting.
Can you imagine America where everyone owns a gun?
Someone will feel the need to use it, just to make sure it functions, for good or bad.

Guns themselves don't kill, they require someone to pull the trigger.

Based on the above, if we elminate all the people, guns can be laid side-by-side across the nation and no one will be harmed, unless they are dropped on an unsuspecting rabbit, and accidentally discarged. Given enough time, the rabbits may evolve and learn how to shoot along with other animals.
Animals taking revenge would be worse than any terrorist.

Guns are a major bone of contention on Facebook. Friends are unfriending because of opposing views. It is too bad and very sad.
