| I didn't know he could write. Or that he'd have anything to say worth reading. But there you have it. I think I'd rather read the shopping cart book, though.

| My husband had a better thought as follows: "It might be interesting to see what he has to say. He has a different perspective than we do." He is right We will buy and read it. |

| Apparently Bush feels his biggest mistake was not privatizing Social Security. So nothing much has changed. What a disaster that would have been. Luckily he left before he could leave us with that final "accomplishment." |

| My 401K was "private investment." I thought I was going to live on that when I retired. |

| 50% is gone. I invested in TIAA CREFF, purportedly a conservatively safe investment mutual fund for teachers and administrators at colleges and universities. It was heavily invested in World Com and Enron and after they hit bottom, the economic slide was also in progress. I had a few other investments, small insurance things. When the slide began, I tried to get ahold of my broker to move them into safer instruments. She was too busy with her multi million dollar customers to call me back. By the time she did, they were nearly gone as well and have only come up a smidge from their low. It was a hard lesson about money managers; they make theirs whether you gain or lose. Their fees are by transaction. |

| DK, I have never trusted any money managers. I've always managed my own investments, using Charles Schwab for 25 years. It has great service and an extensive research center. Awhile back the broker assigned to me tried to get me to use her as an investments manager (they started offering that service a few years ago), but I declined. If she isn't a millionaire herself, why would I want her managing my stuff? I have made plenty of mistakes along the way, but I've also had successes. I figure I've done about as well as any money manager interested in someone of my modest means would do. |

| Joe, It is just interesting to see what they think, or what they claim to think. I see where you are coming from though. I wonder why Bush had to have a war with Iraq. I will be interested in what he has to say about that. Of course whether it will be the truth or not is anybody's guess. |

| That's what has irritated me about this whole campaign. How short the memory of the U.S. citizens. The exploding deficit came from the high cost of chasing oil in Iraq (war) instead of going after the fanatics and the radicals who actually caused the horror at the Trade Center. This was a Bush Administration debacle. The U.S. lost credibility across the globe as well.
President Obama has been stretched thin to overcome his inheritance and my admiration for him knows no bounds. No, he is not perfect. Big surprise. He has however made great strides in all the areas for which he was elected (again, short memory on the part of U.S. citizens).
The Democrats made their mistake by not hammering home every bit of progress like the Republicans kept up their mantras of hate and division for the sole purpose of destroying the country now to "rescue" it later, counting on the stupidity of the U.S. citizens. The Republicans were correct, enough ignorant people voted to change the Congress. Many didn't have a clue what they were doing, in a daze from the constant slogan bombardment.
The Democrats thought U.S. citizens would appreciate that they followed through on the platform for which they were elected. They thought the U.S. citizens had some measure of intelligence and would not be hypnotized by the FOX News commentator hype. They were wrong. We are ignorant. |

| David and DK,
Where is the oil?
As far as I can tell, we haven't gotten a drop of it. The combat troups are home--that was a real failure. |

You mean like Obama going to black and latino communities, telling them to "punish their enemies?" You know, being critical of something is not being a "hater." Even though that term gets thrown around as casually as "racist." Not that I'm defending Republicans or Bush. Just sayin'. |
