Anthologies Empty
PostSubject: Anthologies   Anthologies EmptyMon May 19, 2008 4:39 pm

Ok, everyone, I am at a loss here. You can really tell who the novice is in this group.

I got the idea of the anthology here. What is the anthology you are talking about on Amazon? Is it a place to submit short stories and poems, or a specific book?

I am trying to figure out whether I am just missing info on the boards or that you all basically have more knowledge in a lot more areas than I do. Could be both. Anyway, thanks for helping me.

I think she just meant the program where amazon sells short stories, not an anthology.

Actually we are all purposely posting confusing information to blow your mind. :-)

I don't think you'd find it very helpful. I don't think there are many short pieces sold off amazon.

Hi Sue!

Amazon shorts are short stories that can be bought for just cents from Amazon.

If you are interested in submitting a short story to them, this may help:

Amazon Shorts is a program that Amazon began a few years ago that allows published authors to submit short stories to Amazon, and if they are accepted they are published as estories by Amazon and sold for 49 cents each.

When my first story was accepted there were about 400 stories in the program, now there are almost 4,000. In order to submit, you have to be published, and you have to have a book that is available on Amazon. (At least you used to). Not all stories are accepted, but many are. I think that I have about 30 there now, but I've had a couple turned down.

The top 100 sales list is updated hourly so you can see if your story is ranked with the rest. Some of the very best authors and some very famous celebrities have stories in the program, as well as some not so well known authors, some of whom post here. Don Stephens has several, and Brenda Hill has one also, Dick Stodghill has a few, and of course I have mine.

BTW, right now the program is not accepting any new stories, and none of us are sure when it will start back up.

The Amazon Shorts anthology was put together by me and another of the authors and we have 19 very good stories. The theme is The World Outside The Window, and the idea is that we all look out the same window, see the same things, but we all don't see them in the same way. Each of us took the scene outside the window and wrote what it reminded us of, and there are some very creative stories, and not one of them is similar to another. We are in the process of deciding how, or who, to publish the book, and we hope it will be available soon. Some of the best though not very well known authors on Amazon contributed to the book, and I don't think it will disappoint anyone.

I had one short published in Amazon Shorts - Good Ol' Boys ~
Catfishin', that remained in the top ten (in the humor genre' for
several weeks. I had just completed the sequel when they closed the
barn door.

I think I was one of Don's best customers... I downloaded every one of his Redneck Riviera series and loved them!

Good Ol' Boys was accepted into the WoW 2008 Anthology (Wizards of Words)
and E.Don has one in there too. We're giving it away, Don, but I
consider it advertising...

Don, Thanks for the heads up. I would never have thought to look for a message. *grin*

Phil, you are the third person or situation that pointed me to the WoW 2008. Now I have to seriously think about going. I printed out the brochure. I noticed there are those on this forum that will be presenting there. How Neat!!!!!

Thanks everyone for explaining it to me.

Sue, as was pointed out an anthology is a collection of stories, often the best in a particular genre but sometimes all new stories on the same general theme. They usually are in book form but occasionally are on audio tape or in both forms.

I know you're **not much of a poet Dick, but would you consider writing a short story for the Published Authors anthology?

More information here:
