This reproter has videotape, oh boy
this will blow the lid off the Vatican. I don't see
why they just don't let priests marry or be gay
as long as it doesn't hurt anyone, Yet the church
over the centuries have been doing it in secret.

I feel bad about the faithful members. Some of the nicest people I know are devout Catholics. I hate to see them disillusioned like this.

Sex scandals are not limited to Catholics. They just happen to be getting the attention recently.

This is a very good resource as well as some news articles.

The scandal is sad, and is affecting my faith and spirituality at a time I am in need of it. We have friends who are devout whatever occurs. I know they say prayers that we will again follow the church, and indeed I would be hypocritical if I went to a church where I question actions. One problem is that as a social worker I would have been obligated to report any abuse I heard, and that was right. But the Catholic priests and bishops did none of that. To me spirituality contains love and caring, and making tough decisions.

One thing that came into my mind after a thread here about finding religion was the Bibles's saying we needed to find faith as little children. It struck me that I need to go back to that little child.

I am sorry Carol. the good thing is God can hear us away from church.

The physical therapist was here this morning. I stood at the sink in the kitchen and did little deep knee bends. She helped me with some good ideas for comfort so I could play the piano.

The scritptures say that we will Know them by their fruits.
What are the fruits of the Church of Rome.
Ask the Hugenots and the Jews.
And the choir boys etc. etc.

This problem is not exclusive to the Catholic Church. A boy can get groped by a Methodist minister, too. It happens.

Carol, don't let the actions of individuals in an institution affect your faith.

When I was still active at my little church, I would hear others say that we needed to pray for so-and-so's return to "the faith."

My comment was always: "You cannot possibly know where God is with that person."

Well, I think I have come to know you well enough to believe that you are in a very good place with that God. So, forgive those friends. They don't know what they are saying.

Each person has their own tolerance level. I was very tolerant for years, until I had seen enough.

We should not judge people by their church allegiance--and not judge them at all.

I say leave it alone, this has been going on for
centuries and covered up. I agree the press
always will and have looked for scandal, I do
believe Priests and Nuns should be allowed to
marry , believe it or not in the beginning of the
Vatican Popes did marry, have sex on the side
until years later another Pope abolished it..

Unfortunately, the church leaders are the ones most in need of prayer.

After all, the backsliders were not the ones who killed Jesus.

It was the church leaders who did it.

So much for church leaders.

As Al said, they are but the messengers. God doesn't hide in a church, or only come to people through one religion, just speak to him directly and know that through YOUR faith, he is always with you.

The Catholic Church considers Peter to be the first pope.
Peter was married.

No one will like this much; but in a different meeting today one person suggested that when homo sapiens evolved sufficiently to question why he existed, he invented God so he would have an explanation for the unexplainable.At first he created many Gods, but that theory had its own evolution over time as people migrated to other places on earth and the stories changed as they were repeated to each generation. According to the person speaking, no God exists except in the figment of the imagination. There's more; but it wasn't a very comforting direction so I tuned out.

Where was this meeting?
