| Hey Joe, I just finished planting my vegetable garden this morning. It's modest; full-size and cherry tomatoes, green peppers, basil, cucumbers, and sweet peas (grown from seed and coming up nicely).
I just hired a guy to do a bunch of long-neglected yardwork: mulching, digging up weeds and no-long-wanted perennials in the flower beds, digging up spindly butterfly bushes and replacing them with burning bushes. I planted a new clementis to climb up a front porch column, and I potted a bunch of annuals for the porch.
And that's it -I used to really enjoy gardening, not so much anymore. Veggies in the back and some color in the front is enough for me. |

| Yesterday I dug out a round flower bed in the back of the property (and today I can barely walk). I planted seeds of cosmos, evening primrose, blackberry lily, and china aster, and transferred daisies. I also moved a bunch of day lilies to the back and spotted thriving poison ivy. Within five minutes of finishing the bed, it started to pour--perfect timing! Today, I'll try and take care of the poison ivy. |

| 5/5/2010 I can't plant anything more in the ground, since Miss Dusty roams the garden with a leash so she doesn't get over the fences, so I have to put plants in pots, even then she gets caught around them with her leash.....Their is one Hummingbird so far , he comes around several times a day, today is going to be 75 degrees...." YEAH " I'll add photos when all the other plants start blooming. I have a Wisteria for two years , so far no flowers, a grape vine I think is deceased, I guess I had put it out too early...Have to replace them.. Cheers.Joe |

| Helen, I know about the "can barely walk," I've just started mowing my lawn myself, and feel like I need a walker or something afterwards, lol. There's a cardio workout!
I don't grow any flowers from seeds, I need that instant gratification of seeing a flower as soon as I plant it. |

| Ha! I get to go back to work today so I can rest up from the back-breaking cardio workout I've done over the last two days at home. Ahhh. Relaxation!
L.C., I like that instant gratification, too, but I have more time than money, so planting seeds it is. I also have a lot of perennials that come up all year to help satisfy my flower fix. |

| That's your backyard? Looks huge! I love that trellis gateway. Where does it take the person who walks through it? |

| That path leads to the side of the house to a blue flagstone patio (that I put in myself a couple of years ago) and more shrubs. It's a windy area and shaded. Thanks, Shelagh. I get so much pleasure from my yard and have worked on making my own little outdoor rooms here and there. It looks great in watercolor, Joe! Thanks! Shelagh, you must've made it smaller for me. I'll try and add a picture of my back yard. It's about 3/4 acre. |

| This is where the other path comes from. I also put in the patio for the hot tub with my son. Neither of us knew what we were doing, but it came out great in spite of it. I LOVE my hot tub! |

| Beautiful yard. And the hot tub looks great, too. I like looking at all that stuff, but don't want the maintenance. I just go to the gym when I want a pool and hot tub. |

| Thanks, L.C. Yes, it's a ton of work, but it keeps me in shape--and I prefer yard work to gym work. I go to the YWCA for the pool and yoga and pilates classes. |

| Dusty likes the smell of lilacs, does she? So do I!
I just bought four lilacs, some other flowering bush, 6 rolls of weed mat, 2 boxes of mat staples, 10 bags of river rock and 9 yards of mulch. This weekend a yard guy will use it to fix up my yard. He'll also dig up some unwanted butterfly bushes, and weed-wack an ugly spreading perennial I planted years ago. I've neglected my yard for a long time, it's time to get it back in shape. Will post pics when it's done! |

On Sunday I bought a regular old fashion Lilac bush , it's not in flower, we'll just as I thought Miss Dusty is in love with that one too ! She makes rough love to it..I have to keep her away from it. I don't know what she smells in it , it doesn't have flowers...
Cheers..Joe |
