Pure escapism. |

| Dear Lin, I am not completely in the dark. I do have total recall.
Long, long ago (it sounds just like a fairy tale) I went to head shops just to see the beautiful water pipes they had on display. The incense was powerful. The aroma of the old Avon perfume.....Tigress, Emerude, (snort) and how we all lived through that is one of the unsung miracles. Tempe, Arizona. Coffee house's that let you read your own poetry. Not much of it made sense. I suppose that was what it was about.
When I found T. S. Elliot, I gave all that hoopla up. I never wrote another poem and for sure never went to put my words on stage in front of a bunch of nit wits.
What a game it was to be cool, then.
Funny how cool you can get without trying, Like J. Livingston, you just know you have arrived and there you are.
Love, Betty |

| This is a great thread! Today I bought 2 litres of milk, and a mug for my youngster (21 year old) at home who is a WW2 history buff...it is mug that says "Keep Calm and Carry On" in red...it is a copy of a poster distributed in WW2, which is up on his wall in the bedroom.
I love fresh flowers in the house. Shelagh, those pics are lovely. Since no one ever sends me any, I treat myself once in a while and buy them for myself.
Nice to see you all again! |

| Dear Pam, I am a true believer in buying your own flowers when you want them. I buy flowers every two weeks. That is because I do my major cleaning every two weeks and it makes me happy. I used to wait for other people to make me happy. Now, I do it myself. I grow a lot of my own flowers, too.
The wonderful thing about flowers, weeds or hybrid, they do decorate your life, you view looking out or in. I noticed today that the little blue eyed grass is everywhere. It is the smallest iris in my part of the earth. Beautiful. Not something anyone walking across a lawn would stop and exclaim about unless they were like me, and the fleabane is blooming it's heads off, too. I have a small micro glass that I carry in my pocket. I can look closely at the smallest of the small, be it flower or insect. What beauty is in this world!
Glad to see you again, Pam. How are things in the frozen north?
Love, Betty |

Nice to see you all again! Hi Pam, Great to hear from you! At the moment, I'm staying with my parents. In the kitchen, there's a small ceramic wall plaque that says: I'm smiling because you're my sister I'm laughing because you can't do anything about it |

| Lovely, to both Pam and you Shelagh.
Flowers, special mugs, all nice things to buy. And being with family at difficult times is priceless. I love the sister plaque.
Yesterday we bought a condo, with a nice space on one level, without even steps to go in or out of garage or front and back doors. And I can have a place for a desk, a writing area with closet for files. I love the new place. We can't move in for a few weeks, but we can start packing.
Love, Carol |

| Today a bunch of goodies came in from Amazon, Bluefly and beauty.com. Hair volumizer, face cremes, Dior bling, and some reading. Wow, the book on the left sure was expensive, $19, hope it's good. But then, the creme on the right was $150, and the bling was $250, so I guess the book was a comparative bargain? We'll see if it's all worth it! |

| I love good jewellery. We ladies are very lucky in the UK -- not too much sun and not too damaging. I never buy expensive creams. Recently, I mentioned to my eighty-four year old mother and eighty-year-old aunt how lucky we were genetically because we aged well (choose your ancestors wisely!). They both agreed, then, like a true Lancastrian, my mother said: "Yes we do ... but we have wrinkly necks!" I gently adjusted the scarf around my neck. |

| I believe everything the cosmetics companies tell me. If they say a potion is anti-aging, will put magic nutrients in your skin, make hair shinier, lashes longer -I'm there. No matter what it costs. You'd think I'd learn by now, haha. |

Shelagh.....LC...
Your as young as you feel and look. There's one NO NO in my book, never ever take the sun, it's damaging ! I have a neighbor who's 68 and he looks like a wrinkled prune, stays out in the sun all day long ... Me I use a great cream and it has done wonders for my hands called : Shikai , hand and body lotion, comes in a tube. I use it on my face, neck and especially on my hands. My hands at one time were very dry, now their as smooth as a baby's bottom. I haven't taken the sun snce I was 18 yrs old because I fell asleep at the beach once and got badly burnt, taught me a lesson. And at the young age of 62 I have no wrinkles, many times I have to show my drivers license when I want a senior discount, they don't believe me until they see my birthday on the license. Oh yes I've lost 8 lbs and 18 more lbs to go....So try this cream ...
Cheers..Joe |

| Joe -yeah, the sun's bad news, if I feel I need some color, I get it out of a bottle. Mike, I hear that book has been equated to Pulitzer Prize material (or was it Nobel? Or both?). Do you think I could get the author's autograph? |

| Actually, they're from the grocery store. They do a good job with their donuts, fresh baked each day. If I have a particularly good class, I bring treats the last day. Sometimes I bring them in on the day they do the class/teacher evaluation. |

| 5/16/2010 Hi... Today I received a great plant from Logee's Greenhouse in Danielson, Conn. " Solanum Wrightii" - Giant Potato Tree. It's originally from Brazil, no it doesn't produce potatoes, but it produces fragrant lavendar flowers that turn light blue then white. Cheers..Joe...

| Joe, they look very nice, but honestly, I don't see the difference between them and what I get at Walmart's garden center. I've been buying plants like crazy there the past few days -beautiful things like clementis, coreopsis, purple verbena, flowering shrubs, day lilies, lilac bushes, rhododendrons and hydrangea. My yard guys have started doing their thing and will be done by Monday. I've spent all afternoon trimming shrubs, trees, and a couple of big climber roses that I haven't touched in years. The yard hasn't been a priority for me for the past five years, but I'm glad to be getting back into it now. |
