Carol's Journal: Good News Day Empty
PostSubject: Carol's Journal: Good News Day   Carol's Journal: Good News Day EmptyWed Dec 30, 2009 10:50 am

This is a good news day!! I went to my oncologist this morning and told him about the terrible pain I was having with the radiation, and he said it was time to change procedures and on to something else, that I should not have to go through all that pain. So now I am on a chemo pill five times a day and don't have to see anyone until Jan. 20.

I feel like a new person.

I believe in medical treatment, in those teams of people working together to make one well. But in the midst of all that is our own knowledge of our bodies and when something is right and something is wrong, extreme pain that won't end is a red flag that something is very wrong.

So now I feel I have a future!! I asked the doctor if he was giving up on me, and he said, "No way, we're just beginning. I've got lots of options left!!!"

My daughter left to go back to Virginia, but I said I would see her again at my grandson's wedding in April.

Love you all.

And this is a very big part of your healing. That, and your willingness to hold the experts accountable, and keep them up on how you feel and what you need.

Dear Carol,

I find as I have gotten older, that the future is not some far, far thing. The future is tomorrow. I am glad that you have many tomorrow days to look toward, one at a time. Is it not strange that it takes so long for us to understand the importance of the next day and letting go of the last one.

Love,
Betty

Betty,

That is beautiful. I have been thinking of writing about that, about the future, the present, living like one will live forever but that each day will be the last.

I have no assurances. I only have possibilities.

Love ya, Carol

"I'm tough, I can take it" was often heard by those who resisted relief from pain. That's dumb. Why suffer when one can get relief?
Glad to hear you have relief Carol, and all the best in the New Year.

Carol,

Keep telling your stories. We are learning so much from you about how to deal with the tough times. As with everything else, you handle them with such grace.
