I have preached networking as long as these kinds of boards have been around, and yet most of the time I heard the same of silly BS that says there is only one way to get published, and that is the old fashioned tried and true method used by so many, the vast majority of whom, ironically, never manage to become published. And yet they keep trying. To which I say: Stop! Desist! Quit! Give it up for Christ's sake. If you've been writing, submitting, and being rejected for ten years, what in the world makes you think the next ten will be any different?

Network, make connections, use your brain. There are as many ways to find publishing as there are writers, but most just refuse to look for them.

I could not agree more with the above!!! cheers

I have self-published, been published by the state of Wisconsin, been published by PA, published a book by Lulu, had articles in regional magazines, written essays that brought me speaking engagements, written policy books, written materials for training manuals, and this year even made money selling rights for a work to an organization so they could make revisions and tweak the work to their needs.

The past month I have done networking for my recent unpublished books, spoken to family about material for another. Decisions are not easy, and certainly the easy one (we think) the one we dream of is that big acceptance and big advance.

Very good E. Don. These are my feelings and thoughts exactly. My problem is I don't always follow them. Right now I feel I am at a crossroads of decision making. And certainly waiting is one of the decisions I could make, but I know it is not the best.

Excellent post.

Carol

Thank you! I have learned quite a bit this evening at that site. Your generous "research" on behalf of authors posting here is very much appreciated by me.

Diane, make sure to have a few photos of ghost orchids on your website. Google Images will pick them up and the result can be amazing. Anyone who looks up orchids will see the notice about your book. This is true of almost any subject.

Thanks for the suggestion. My web site is badly in nead of an overhaul. I may start a blog that looks like a web site.

Unfortunately, I can't find any ghost orchid pictures that are open stock - they are all copyright because the flower is rare and such a deal to be photographed. I'll look again now. It's pouring rain and changed my plans for the day.

E. Don spoke of the value of networking. Here we are in a great place for networking, for those ideas!! And Shelagh has been a big part of providing information and encouraging others to do so as well.

Dick has a few ideas as well!

Dick, I couldn't find where you recommended I put some ghost orchid photography up on my site at www.dkchristi.com but I found some posted in a blog, asked permission of the amateur photographer, and they are now in my picture gallery. With your suggestion, I am now on a quest for pictures from Corkscrew Swamp of MY ghost orchid; I wish I had some pictures, but I am a word photographer. I have never had a real camera of my own.
