That was "awesome," it felt like you were

Dick,
I remember Miriam Makeba. Somewhere in the drawers under my bed amidst the other 300 or so old 78's is her album with the Click song. I loved her music. Her and Ima Sumac. Both singers with unusual talent.

I enjoyed the story and the photo's. I would like to go to see all those animals for my self. I can go to Busch Gardens and see them from afar or in a "natural habitat" but it is not the same as it would be finding one for your self in the wild. The difference would be between seeing Carol's bear in a zoo and coming upon it in an unexpected way as she and Tom did. That is magic for the human spirit. Something of the old uncivilized earth-connected man stirs in surprise of being graced with those unexpected views of the other inhabitants of our earth. It does not matter if they are large and grand like elephants or small as a field mouse. Seeing them unaware is almost a spirtual experience. There is not time and the sighting is gone and you are straining your eyes to see the last glimpse. It is almost as if we had seen elves with our own eyes. We humans are desperate for the connection.

What grand photography. I think that first male lion is roaring for his morning coffee! I have managed to catch some of the animal shows, and can only imagine walking among them, or motoring by. What an adventure.

Miriam Makeba made quite an impression on me many years ago when I saw her sing the click song with Harry Belafonte on television. They did several duets, but that click she did was fantastic.
