| Richard Stanbery asked a question about the definition of what became a popular saying from an old 1927 song, Crazy Words, Crazy Tune. My memory failed because I thought the kid next door was playing records and singing but he was strumming his ukulele and singing. A lot of people recorded the song but the best version in my opinion was by Frank Crumit. Do you know the tune? I have it on tape.
Crazy words, crazy tune, All that I ever hear him croon Vo do de o, vo doe doe de o, doe--doe doe doe. Sits around, all night long Sings the same words to every song Vo do de o, vo doe doe de o, doe. His ukulele, daily How he'll strum! Bum bum bum! Vampin' and stampin' Then he'll holler, 'Black bottom!' Crazy words, crazy tune, He'll be driving me crazy soon Vo do de o, vo doe doe de o, doe.
Napoleon Marched his men To Waterloo What did he say to them? Vo do de o, vo doe doe de o, doe. Oh, is that so?
Washington At Valley Forge 'Twas bitter cold and up spoke George Vo do do, vo doe doe de o, doe. No--you don't say?
And Simon Legree In Uncle Tom's Cabin What did he say to Uncle Tom? I'll tell you what he said, He took his whip and said to Uncle Tom-- 'C'mon, Charleston!'
And in the Senate The other day What did our President Coolidge say? Vo do de o, vo doe doe de o, doe. |

| And here I thought you had good taste, Marie. Just because you have a pretty picture we haven't seen before doesn't mean you can get away with knocking Johnny Marvin. That happens to be the music I grew up with and love. Next I suppose you'll be saying you don't like the songs of Ruth Etting or Annette Hanshaw. Some people! |

| I have touched on the swing music for decades, and this is one of my all time favorites... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Y6EMMhDCGo
Im thinking that Louie Armstrong was in a movie with Bogart, but I cant remember. Was he, was it Cassablanca?
Yeah, there was some great music back then. The next link is one that I discovered about 12 years ago while listening to an old time radio show called "Swinging Down the Lane". They played all sorts of swing music, and I listened to it every Saturday morning, as it only came on about 7am, and I was driving home from a graveyard shift. It made my hour long drive a lot more pleasant. This one is called "Swingin' on nothing". Enjoy... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YvHI2V1nmoQ I think this old music is better than a lot of the stuff that is on the radio today. Back then, talent was considered more than the ability to scream, or eat bats on stage! |

| That's almost as good as "Mairsie Doats," Dick.

| When my troop ship landed in Liverpool, a British army band was there to greet us. As we filed down the gangplank it was playing Mairsy Doats. What a way to go to war. I like doo wop, Marie. Even like early rock 'n' roll. Can't say much for most of it today. |

| My son played in a metal band in high school, and I learned to like the sound. Rush and U2 were my favorites. I also liked the Iron Maiden version of Coleridge's "Rime of the Ancient Mariner."
I wasn't that into rock and roll. I could listen to folk music for hours. Disco I liked, especially for dancing.
I liked, and miss, the big band sounds. There was I time when I could do a mean fox trot. When I was a young "matron" in my home town, there wasn't much to do for entertainment, so we joined a couple of dance clubs, and about every other month, would go to a hotel ballroom with about two hundred others to dance and listen to ballroom music. It is still my favorite. I guess that makes me an old fogey.
