Little Old Lady-Hood

Today, two older couples came to my strawberry place. When they pulled up, before they got out of the car, one of the men said, "We only want one quart."

I got them a box to put the berries in. In a matter of two minutes, they had that one filled and were picking berries and holding them in their hands. I got more boxes.

They were a little scattered and I think the ladies had some memory problems. They wanted oranges. The men went off to pick the oranges. 220 oranges. Meanwhile, the ladies are picking strawberries just for the fun of picking them. 8 quarts. Found some jalapenos they wanted. Picked those, too.

I must say that those people had the best fun I have seen people have in a good long time. They were going home to South Carolina this week. The ladies told me about their sons who were going to get the strawberries, how they loved them and how their friend would enjoy the jalapeno peppers.

People are beautiful.

I love those scenarios that come into our lives, of people with joy in their hearts.

I saw a news item this morning about parents complaining about a kid's show host who only had one arm. The parents didn't like it that they were having to explain disabilities to their children, that she was making their children afraid.

I remember a scenario in my life where I was in an elevator with a small child and a man with one leg. The child looked up at the man and asked with no fear, no hesitation, "Hey, what happened to your leg?" I have no memory of the answer, but I remember the man's smile.

And the little old lady-hood, I'm getting there and hope I have as much fun as those ladies did.

I wish I had a little more energy, to go further south in Florida and pick some strawberries! Next year.
