| I brought this up in another thread and I hope to discuss this even more here. Well I am a Partner and Founder of Regime Guard Entertainment. I was able to (with the grace of the Gods) to find people to partner with me on a new concept.
We have been through about 2-3 marketing agents so that we could get funding. One agent had problems trying to get us funding because (he) couldn't afford and ask me to afford the trips outside USA soil.
The next agent we had didn't understand that we were one body as we all had a say on contractual and other issues.
Well, finally we have a couple people working on our concept to sell the screenplay rights and the book publishing rights.
But we also have the abilities to move on from the media franchise ability to just becoming regularly published in the traditional manner.
The franchise would have become another SW, ST, or LOTR franchise which would have been a dream come true.
Publishing the novel and the film would have been another piece of the puzzle done.
So here is the question:
Would you shell out the money to get investors and staffing to work on your one concept as a writer?
Or
Would you just be grateful to sell a book a film?
I hope this doesn't show you I am selfish with this project...just more like...should I wait and see or do the monies to get investors...
Thanks |

| What do YOU want to do? What is YOUR gut telling you? Always go with your very, very first thought on something. That is the right answer for you. |

| I just don't understand your whole concept here. Publishing houses hire publicists and staffs and stuff.
Writers do their own/
I have NEVER, EVER heard a writer say, "I'm glad I spend that money on that publicity agent." |

| I have found with a publisher you do most of your own media stuff anyway. Although I try to help my authors. So maybe by owning your own media franchise you can branch out and do others. Is that what you were thinking? |

| Yes, exactly. I would think I would need a publishing deal first? |

| I think you are getting ahead of yourself. If you are talking indie press and indie film there won't be any spin-offs. If the film goes to one of the leading film-makers, they have massive marketing departments that would swing into action. Therefore, it is in your best interests to trademark your characters so that any products carrying the trademarks have to pay a percentage of the profits.
The best example is JK Rowling and the film industry combined. By the time the money-making media giants took over, lawyers and agents representing Ms Rowling had everything legally tied up.

| Marie, I think MJ should listen to you. First the book and, Higher Power willing, the rest may follow. Don't put the cart before the horse.
As I learned that if you are multi-tasking you are NOT doing any one task well. So focus on one and take it step by step. Enthusiasm is great unless it hinders you from moving forward. |

| Good for you, Marie! Sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders. With a partner like you, MJ can't go wrong. |
